The Orangerie is a classical 18th century red brick country house estate between Vimoutiers and Orbec, near the little hamlet of Avernes St Gourgon, close to Le Sap. The house has a private wood and is surrounded by lawns planted with shrubs and topiary and is an ideal base for a restful few days break. There are four very comfortable rooms with bathrooms. Our chambres d'hôtes bed and breakfast is in a quiet hamlet on the edge of the Marais, a wonderful wildlife reserve close to St Lô, 30 kms south of Bayeux and the D-Day Landing beaches. The area here is scattered with lovely manor houses, villages and churches, forests and a pastoral landscape where horses and dairy cattle graze. South of St Lô, the river has good trout fishing.
