Le Nid à Bibi
Deep in the mellow, peaceful Bresse countryside on the border of Burgundy and the Rhone Alps region, near the Seillon forest with lovely views over the prairies, Le Nid à Bibi is a typical Bresse farmhouse, which has been carefully restored and made into a comfortable and friendly, luxury Bed and Breakfast. An ideal place from which to explore both these lovely areas. Bourg-en-Bresse is an hour from Lyon, very near the Dombes, a vast forested nature reserve with hundreds of small lakes (good fishing). Villars-les-Dombes (20 km) has one of Europe's most interesting ornithological parks which is a habitat for thousands of migratory birds.
This area is known for its gastronomy and some of the best restaurants, such as Chez Léa in Montreval en Bresse, Alain Chapel in Mionnay, and Georges Blanc in Vonnas, are well known internationally. There is also a good choice of auberges and bistro's within a reasonable drive from here, but if you would rather not go out, Mme Bibus will be happy to prepare dinner, using her home-grown vegetables.
The rooms are charming and comfortable, each decorated individually with a mixture of old and new furniture. The ensuite colour-coordinated bathrooms have both bath and shower. There are four double bedrooms and one larger bedroom, which sleeps three and has a whirlpool bath. All linen, including fluffy towels, are provided and the rooms are cleaned every day. There is a large guest sitting room with a fireplace and a separate library with television to relax in. Dinner is available on request and in Summer, breakfast and dinner are served on one of the terraces. The tennis courts, gym, heated indoor swimming pool and sauna are entirely at your disposal. There is also a games room and bicycles are available. The facilities of Le Nid à Bibi are available for wedding receptions, seminars and family celebrations.
The Area
You will also find several very good golf courses in the area, the best one, only ten minutes away by car, stays open all year round. There are also riding stables where you can hire horses for an hour or a day and this is excellent cycling and walking country with well marked routes. The area is dotted with numerous buildings of Roman architecture: châteaux, churches and monasteries, many with frescoes. In Bourg-en-Bresse, the church of Brou is a fine example of flamboyant gothic art and the old part of town has some very interesting medieval houses with colombage beamed walls. Bresse is also known for its unusual Saracen chimneys, elaborately built like miniature Romanesque bell towers and originally above a central fireplace with a large hood to take away the smoke. There are also many artisans in the area who make furniture, ceramics, wrought ironwork and enamel. Travel Information
