Traditional Farmhouse with pool in South West France
Faux, 18 km Southeast of Bergerac, in the Dordogne
6 bedrooms, sleeps up to 12 people
Situated 1 km from the village of Faux just south of Bergerac, the farmhouse is part of the Château Le Tour estate set in five hectares of park and gardens, where children can play freely and safely and has been fully restored and furnished in keeping with its original character and charm. The beautiful region of the Dordogne is a land of sheltered valleys and woods, rivers, farms producing pâté de foie gras, vineyards, medieval towns and villages, and châteaux. It is the country of truffles, walnut oil, wine and geese with an immensely rich tradition of cookery and within reasonable driving distance are a choice of restaurants ranging from simple to gastronomic.
La Bergerie has a huge living room, once the main barn, which has an enormous wall of windows opening onto a covered terrace and the swimming pool beyond. The original animal stalls remain as part of the decor and the house is furnished with comfortable country furniture. The farmhouse kitchen has everything you need for coping with large appetites and enthusiastic cooks: an Aga style cooking range and a microwave, a large fridge/freezer with an icemaker and a dishwasher. Leading from the kitchen is the games room with a small billiard table and table tennis and a laundry room with a washing machine and dryer.
The master bedroom with an en suite bathroom with both bath and shower, is on the East side of the house and three twin bedrooms are on the West side. A further double bedroom with an en suite shower room and wc leads off the dining room on the North side. Lastly, there is another twin bedroom with shower and wc, next to the games room. In summary there are 2 double bedrooms with en suite bathrooms, 4 twin bedrooms and 2 separate showers with wc. We are happy to provide additional single beds if required.
A south-facing terrace overlooks the swimming pool (12m x 6m). The pool is surrounded by a fence with a gate to ensure safety of young children at all times.
There is a riding school next to us, tennis courts and a lake in Lanquais (4 km), canoeing and fishing on the River Dordogne (6 km). There is also an international golf course with 9 and 18 holes at the Château de Vigiers Country Club and Restaurant, within a half hour drive. There is an estate manager on the spot who will be happy to help with local information.
Faux is our nearest village, which has a small supermarket, boulangerie, post office, bar and garage. The pretty little medieval village of Issigeac is not far from here and has a variety of shops and an especially good Sunday morning market, packed with every imaginable seasonal thing from foie gras and farm made cheeses to kilos of apricots and cherries, a dozen different kinds of lettuce, home baked cakes, tarts and wine, to garden plants and wicker baskets. It is quite a social occasion, when people come in from miles around, as much to meet friends as to shop, to sit together in a cafe and catch up with news, or perhaps have lunch at Chez Alain, the restaurant across from the old château.
