Faux, 18 km Southeast of Bergerac, in the Dordogne
With 7 en-suite bedrooms and swimming pool
Chateau le Tour
Situated 1 km from the village of Faux, just south of Bergerac in the Dordogne, the château is an elegant family home set in 30 acres of park and gardens and surrounded by unspoilt countryside. Built in the 18th century, it is typical of many of the country houses in this region and has been sensitively restored and furnished in keeping with its original character.
The beautiful region of the Dordogne is a land of sheltered valleys and woods, rivers, farms producing pâté de foie gras, vineyards, medieval towns and villages, and châteaux. It is the country of truffles, walnut oil, wine and geese with an immensely rich tradition of cookery and within a reasonable distance there are many restaurants ranging from simple to gastronomic. The château has seven spacious bedrooms, comfortably furnished with period furniture. The master bedroom and bathroom, another double bedroom with bathroom and five double bedrooms, all with ensuite shower rooms.
There is a large sitting room, a dining room and a kitchen with an additional informal dining area and a beautiful terrace with stunning views across the valley. The kitchen has been fitted with all the latest Smeg appliances, including cooker, dishwasher and a large fridge with an icemaker. There is also a laundry room equipped with washing and drying machines. Facilities include a large swimming pool (15 x 7m) with a terrace equipped with garden furniture, a full size snooker table, a boules pitch and a games room in the stables. There are telephone and fax lines and a digital line available for computer use. The château has a full oil-fired heating system recently installed. Conferences, seminars, language and art courses are welcome. Prices by negotiation depending on numbers and requirements. Wine and food lovers could find no better place to indulge themselves. The château can be rented with or without staff depending upon requirements and there is a full time English speaking guardian living on the estate who can provide any help or information that you need during your stay.
The Area
There is a riding school next to us, tennis courts and a lake in Lanquais (4 km), boat trips and fishing on the Dordogne (6 km), and an excellent golf course with 9 and 18 holes at Château de Vigiers Country Club and Restaurant within a half hour drive. Faux (1 km), is our local village and has a small supermarket, boulangerie, post office, bar and garage. Bergerac (18 km), sits on the banks of the Dordogne river at the centre of the wine producing areas of Bergerac, Pécharmant and Monbazillac. It is a busy, attractive town with good shopping, cafes and restaurants and a large market on Saturday mornings. These are some comments from the visitors book: 'A week was not enough.....we will return. C'était parfait!' 'Thanks for the magical time.....friendships, food and fun will not be forgotten' 'Your château has such ambience felt right at home' 'Absolutely fabulous, a great time had by all and very sad to go...' 'My vision of heaven has been altered...' 'A splendid place for our family reunion...' 'All the best for giving us the best...' Travel Information
