Chateau de Rouffillac
Situated in the heart of the Périgord Noir, one of the most beautiful parts of the Dordogne Valley, the château lies in fifty acres of parkland, dominating the valley above the river with exceptional views across the countryside. Restored in the 19th century in the Renaissance style, the château has an interior courtyard with a swimming pool and is surrounded by terraces and gardens.
The château is close to many of the medieval towns and villages of Périgord and Quercy as well as the amazing prehistoric caves of Lascaux and Les Eyzies with their extraordinary cave paintings. Saint-Julien-Lampon (2 kms), has all essential shops, as well as a doctor, dentist and a pharmacy. The swimming pool has been recently installed and there are many lovely walks through the grounds. The river is only a kilometre away, where you can swim, fish, and canoe.
On the ground floor is a large kitchen with a vaulted ceiling, fully equipped for sixteen people, including a large fridge / freezer, a Godin cooking range, dishwasher, washing machine and dryer, and microwave. There is a dining room, which seats sixteen people and two spacious sitting rooms, each with a large stone fireplace. On the first floor are four bedrooms. There are two double bedrooms with extra large beds, each with an adjoining bathroom, a third double bedroom with a shower room and a double bedroom with a single bed and a private bathroom. The second floor has four bedrooms. There is a double bedroom with a bathroom, shared with the twin bedroom next door, another double bedroom and a twin bedroom, each with en-suite bathrooms. The château is comfortably furnished with period furniture and has television and a CD music system. A telephone/fax is available and three cots, a highchair and a playpen can be provided on request. A cook can be arranged on request, together with an extra chef when needed. A cleaning woman will come six times a week and a gardener comes every day to care for the grounds and swimming pool, who can help with any local information that you need.
The Area
There are riding stables (11 kms), which cater for riders of every level of expertise, where you can hire horses for an hour or two, or for the day and there are good golf courses at Souillac and Vitrac (20 kms). Domme, perched high above the Dordogne Valley is a 13th century bastide village with pretty honey coloured houses leading to the market place and to a point that has lovely views down to the Dordogne river far below and towards the waves of hills that recede into the Auvergne. Sarlat has a good market on Saturday mornings and is pleasant to wander around, and Beynac with its castle overlooking the village that clusters around it, are both worth a detour. Children love the aquarium at Bugue. There are many restaurants to choose from here, from simple to gastronomic, which specialise in a range of regional dishes to suit every taste. Travel Information
