La Detourbe
This flexible accommodation comprises two fully equipped, self-contained gites, ideal for couples or families, which can also be taken together for larger parties. Set back 50 metres from the road, La Detourbe is private, but not isolated. Set in extensive grounds, this traditional Normandy Longhouse has been renovated to a high standard preserving the original oak beams throughout.
We are situated 5 kms from the town of La Ferté- Macé on the border of the Forêt des Andaines within the Parc de Normandy Maine, and surrounded by châteaux, lakes, forests, pretty villages and lively market towns. This part of Normandy is not far from the châteaux of the Loire Valley and the Normandy Landing Beaches and is within comfortable driving distance from most channel ports, and a train ride from Paris. The gites are in a barn with the owners living next door in the original farm house. Both gites are fully self-contained and centrally heated, ideal for a couple or a family with young children and suitable throughout the year. Guests have full use of a large conservatory opening onto the sun terrace, at the rear of the property. Gite 1 is a ground floor gite, suitable for 2 + 2 people, which has a large lounge with a well equipped corner kitchen with dining area and a large double bedroom with an en-suite bathroom. There is also a double bed-settee in the lounge. Gite 2 has a large lounge with a fully equipped corner kitchen with fridge/freezer, dishwasher and dining area. Leading off the lounge is a ground floor double bedroom with en-suite shower room. The stairs from the lounge lead up to two further en-suite bedrooms. Bedroom 2 has a double bed, whilst Bedroom 3 has a double bed and a single bed. There is also a double bed-settee in the lounge. The sun terrace, which extends the whole length of the rental accommodation, gives access to a laundry room, which houses a washing machine, tumble dryer and a dishwasher. There is also ample garden furniture and a large barbecue on the sun terrace. For young families we have available two put-u-up beds, a full size cot, two travel cots, a high chair and changing mat, plus a collection of toys. For young children there is a garden swing, sand pit and small and large paddling pools. For the more energetic we have available a selection of adult bicycles. The Area
This is excellent country for outdoor pursuits like rambling, cycling, riding, golf and fishing. La Ferté-Macé has all essential shops and a lake with a sandy beach, supervised bathing, watersports and a waterside bar. Bagnoles-de-l'Orne (10 kms) is a charming spa town with thermal baths, a lakeside casino and a good choice of inexpensive restaurants. Further afield Le Mont St Michel, Bayeaux, the Normandy Landing Beaches and elegant Deauville with its board walks and marina are all within comfortable driving distance. The roads are all very quiet and driving is a pleasure. With an early start you can catch a train to Paris and enjoy a day in the capital, or drive to the Loire Valley, or even Futuroscope, the vast science and technology park at Poitier.
