This 17th century Maison de Maître is a comfortable family home with fine views over the surrounding farmland and forest, situated just outside the village of Alluy, near Châtillon-en-Bazois, between Nevers (35 kms) and Château-Chinon (30 kms).
We are very near the Canal de Nivernais, one of the most naturally beautiful waterways in France and close to the forest of Vincence, where you can walk and cycle, or quietly spend the day fishing. Burgundy is as well known for its food, fine Charolais beef, game, snails and fresh water fish dishes and cheeses, as it is for its wines and there are four restaurants to choose from, less than 6 kms from us.
There are four large, comfortable double bedrooms with private bathrooms. Soleil has twin beds and a bathroom with shower washbasin and wc. Prairie has large twin beds and a bathroom with shower, washbasin and wc. Violine has a double bed, television and a bathroom with shower, washbasin and wc. Saumonée is a double room with a bathroom with bath, washbasin and wc, and a second bedroom with a large single bed. All the bedrooms are furnished with period furniture and guests can use a kitchen in the dovecote, equipped with a refrigerator and oven, to make light snacks and keep cold drinks. There is also a barbecue. A large living room with a billiard table and a piano is also available to our guests. The Area
There is a water sports base at Baye with windsurfing and canoes. About 5 kms from us is a swimming pool and several places to spend a day fishing. Nevers (35 kms), famous for its colourful chinaware, lies on the banks of the River Loire and is a mix of its medieval past and a lively pedestrianised quarter with good shopping, restaurants and cafes. Close to the town is Magny-Cours, the Formula One racing circuit, which also has a go-carting circuit. Further downstream from Nevers, Charité-sur-Loire, is the most captivating town along this stretch of the river and beyond that are Pouilly-sur-Loire and Sancerre, famous for their white wines. On the other side of the Canal Latéral is Apremont-sur-Allier, the finest château in the region. The medieval village lies beside the River Allier, at the centre of which, is the great fortress château and its beautiful gardens. The vast Morvan National Park with forests, rivers and lakes and scattered farms and villages is a wildlife lover's paradise. Autun, deep in the hills, is the ancient Roman heart of Burgundy and still defies modernity. In Bazoches-en-Morvan, you can visit the newly restored château, once the home of Vauban, then on to mystical Vézelay with its great basilica and esoteric bookshops and restaurants.
