Country Chambres d'Hôtes Bed and Breakfast in Burgundy
Crux-la-Ville, 10 km from Saint-Saulge, 45 km from Nevers
2 rooms with bathrooms
Domaine des Perrieres
Our three hundred year old house is situated in quiet countryside, close to a farm which grows cereals and raises beautiful white Charolais cattle. It is a pleasant home, covered with virginia creeper and surrounded by hundred year old trees.
We are in the Nièvre, the western part of Burgundy, between the upper Loire Valley and the Morvan Hills, 10 kms from the village of Saint-Saulge, which has all essential shops, 45 kms from Nevers and Magny-Cours. We have two comfortable bedrooms available, each with a bathroom and separate wc, harmoniously decorated and furnished with old country furniture.
Frêne is a south facing twin bedroom with views over the countryside. Saule Pleureur has a double and a single bed to accommodate three people and faces west with views over the garden. An extra bed is available if necessary. There is a big garden where you can relax under the shade of the trees, with a play area with swings for the children. Dinner is available in the evenings, when you can sample some good home cooking using local farm meats and cheeses, smoked hams and sausages from the Morvans, vegetables from our garden and home made desserts, with local Burgundy wines. A generous breakfast is served in the morning with an assortment of breads and pastries and preserves. The Area
There is a delightful forest to walk through near us and this is great cycling country with over 550 kms of well marked routes. You can hire bicycles in Saint-Saulge. The Etang du Merle lake (8 kms) has a leisure base, where you can hire canoes and there is sailing on the Baye (12 kms), or perhaps spend a day on Canal du Nivernais, one of the most naturally beautiful waterways in France. Within 50 kms are Vézelay with its great Basilica, a town built high on a wooded hillside, which has always attracted an esoteric mixture of painters, pilgrims and mystics and Charité-sur-Loire, one of the most attractive towns on this stretch of the Loire, which looks much as it did in medieval times. North of here is Pouilly-sur-Loire, famed for its dry white wines and on the other side of the river is Sancerre. Nevers has good shopping, many restaurants and is famous for its colourful pottery. The motor racing circuit of Magny-Cours is not far from there. Travel Information
