Chambres d'Hôtes Bed and Breakfast with pool in the Vaucluse
Saint-Saturnin-lès-Avignon, 11 kms from Avignon
5 air-conditioned bedrooms with ensuite shower

Le Domaine de Gendalis

Surrounded by the plants and scents of Provence, the house is on one level and situated 10 minutes from the pleasures of ancient Avignon. Carpentras, 25 kms from here, has a big market on Friday mornings in the Place des Platanes and is a pleasant town to walk around, stop for lunch or watch the world go by from a shady cafe terrace. The vast Sunday antique market at Isle-sur-la-Sorgue is a short drive away and the pretty villages of Gordes and Roussillon, Ménerbes and Lacoste in beautiful the Luberon are an hour's drive or so.

All the bedrooms are air conditioned, comfortably furnished with Provençal oak furniture and have a bathroom with shower with a separate wc. There is a terraced swimming pool (11m x 7m), a library sitting room, table tennis and a boules pitch.

Two of the rooms are double bedrooms shaded by pine trees and the other three are family rooms with a double and single bed, which overlook the garden. Breakfast is served by the pool or in the dining room.

The Area

You could spend days exploring the treasures Avignon has, quite apart from the shops and restaurants, from the splendour of the Popes' palace and the palace gardens, the city walls, the famous bridge and the city's museums and lovely old buildings.

Of the Luberon villages, Gordes has a graceful Renaissance château with a museum devoted to the contemporary painter Vasarély and near the village, are an ancient settlement of bories, primitive beehive-shaped drystone houses. Roussillon is situated on a hill surrounded by ochre cliffs and you can follow the trail through the Colorado Provençal towards Rustrel. Near the Luberon mountains are the pretty villages of Oppède and Ménerbes, made famous by the writer Peter Mayle, Bonnieux and Lacoste with the château which once belonged to the Marquis de Sade.

The ancient village of Fontaine de Vaucluse and the Cistercian abbey of Sénanque are well worth seeing and you can also visit the cellars of many of the vineyards that produce the wines of the Luberon, Côtes de Ventoux and Côtes de Rhône to taste.
