Bed & Breakfast in a Paris Apartment
Montparnasse, 14th arrondissement
En-suite double room
La Chambre d'Hôtes
The apartment is on the first floor of a modern apartment building in Montparnasse, overlooking a small tree lined square with benches and a fountain. The 14th arrondissement is on the left bank of the River Seine just beyond the Latin Quarter, within easy reach of the Louvre.
In the first three decades of the last century, Montparnasse meant artists, a vibrant café life and the rowdy cabarets of the rue de la Gaîté. Artists like Picasso, Léger and Utrillo, and the critic Apollinaire, moved here to escape the rising rents of Montmartre and brought with them a new and innovative intellectual life to the area. To some extent, their legacy has lived on and today Montparnasse still has a lively atmosphere. Theatres and cinemas, oyster bars and crêperies and the celebrated brasseries, La Coupoule and La Dôme in the boulevard du Montparnasse, and Hemingway's favourite hangout La Closerie des Lilas, are still open day and night, full of beer and chatter.
The chambre d'hôte is very comfortable and an ideal base from which to enjoy the pleasures of the city. We are passionate students of history and art and will be happy suggest places to visit. The bedroom is pleasantly decorated and has a large double bed, cable television, tea and coffee making facilities and a hair dryer and ironing facilities, as well as a bathroom with shower. Breakfast is taken in the dining room. Wi-Fi Internet access available. The Area
The Gâité métro is five minutes away and connects to most parts of Paris. Not far away in the boulevard Raspail, is Rodin's remarkable 1898 sculpture of Balzac, which caused such an outcry because of its rugged, elemental image of the novelist that it wasn't displayed in public for forty years. The Montparnasse cemetery has become a resting place for the famous and among the eminent dead are several composers and musicians, actors, singers and writers, such as Baudelaire, Maupassant, de Beauvoir and Sartre.
