Apartment or Bed and Breakfast in the Jura
Monnet la Ville, between Dijon, Geneva and Lyon, in the Franche Comté
2 en-suite double bedrooms bed and breakfast. Apartment: 1 bedroom, sleeps 2/4 people

Le Rendez Vous

'Rendez-Vous' is a traditional, chalet-style house of the Jura, on a hillside overlooking the valley of the River Ain within walking distance of the village of Monnet la Ville and close to the Jura vineyards, famous for their Arbois, Chateau Chalon and Poligny wines and their Cremant and Vin Jaune. It is only five minutes from a lake with a beach. The chalet and the location are unspoilt and picturesque, although guests have described nearby rivers, valleys, lakes and cascades, as dramatic in their impact. The area is ideal for walking, cycling, touring or just relaxing: "there is so much to do and see and it is all so near".

Available nearby is swimming, fishing, wind surfing, sailing, canoeing, riding and flying (microlight or fixed wing). There is ample parking space. Summer temperatures in the Jura are within two degrees of Nice or Marseilles. There is more rain the in the South, but the good news is that the region is always lush and, because of surrounding hills, most of the rain falls at night, giving us sunny days !
Winter holidays too have become popular with guests who want to be able to enjoy the snow in the high Jura without having to endure very low temperatures for the whole holiday. Guests have participated in the famous Transjurasienne cross country ski event in February. For the warm blooded there are the Transju’Trail in June and the TransRoller in September, all of which attract people from many countries.

The self-contained apartment has a wood-panelled bedroom with a king sized bed, fitted wardrobes, a lounge with a three-seater settee/chaise longue, which can be converted into a comfortable double bed, a glass-topped dining table and four chairs, a fitted kitchen with a dishwasher and a tiled shower room. There is TV and a CD player. The apartment has its own verandah and garden with fountain.

Bed and breakfast rooms have king sized beds, fitted wardrobes, en-suite shower rooms and accessories such as hair dryers and tea trays. One has its own balcony overlooking the valley. Each has been renovated recently.

Breakfast is English or Continental, with fruit, local hams, cheeses, and local delicacies offered each day. Breakfast is included in the room price, but for B&B guests who want to dine here, there is a large fully fitted traditional French kitchen and dining area (oak table to seat six), including a barbeque, fondue and raclette sets, all of which can be booked for a small charge. Eat in, or on the terrace. Using the excellent nearby stores or traiteur, one can prepare restaurant quality meals at minimum cost and preparation.

Apartment and B&B guests are welcome to use the main lounge with its balcony overlooking the valley, and the the gardens and terraces which have tables, reclining chairs and sunshades. There is an outside shower for use on hot days.

The Area

Our guests enjoy walking, cycling, touring, visiting places of interest, from the local lakes, rivers, waterfalls, mansions, chateaux (some of which hold delightful concerts of French music) and wine tastings, to nearby towns such as Lons le Saunier, with its ancient square, fountains, pavement cafes and restaurants, or Dole, birth place of Louis Pasteur with its ancient old town, waterside walks and restaurants, or Dijon with its palace and other reminders of the power and arts of the Dukes of Burgundy.

The mountains of the Haut Jura National Park start nearby and lead up through mountain scenery and over the border into Switzerland. Dishes of the region include poulet vin jaune, coq au vin, boeuf bourgignon (the Jura was once part of Burgundy), raclette, based on local hams and cheeses, and fondue. Fish from our rivers and lakes, game from our forests and cheeses from our meadows are renowned throughout France. The local vineyards of Arbois and Poligny (also famous for its clockmakers) are said to be amongst the prettiest in France and well worth a visit.

Cycling or Walking: The combination of flat plateaux, gentle hills, villages, valleys, rivers and lakes provide plenty of variety and interest. We provide a hundred detailed route maps for walking and cycling, ranging from easy to challenging. Bikes can be hired, together with helmets, panniers, and waterproofs. Most bikes are new this year. Gel saddles are available for the unhardened rider!
