Paris Pied à Terre On The Left Bank
Near Place d’Italie, Montparnasse and the Latin Quarter
2 bedrooms, sleeps up to 4 people
The Apartment
The apartment is in a quiet location off a busy boulevard near the Place d’Italie on the edge of the Vietnamese district, not far from Montparnasse and the Latin Quarter. On three floors with a small terrace, the apartment overlooks a plant filled courtyard; total peace and quiet inside and daily life, local shops, a dazzling choice of fruit and vegetables, a shopping center and a great choice of restaurants, just outside. You can get to anywhere you want to go in central Paris, within 20 minutes via the metro.
The ground floor of the apartment has the main living room with a dining area, television and DVD, high speed Internet access. The fitted kitchen area is equipped with a dishwasher, oven and hob, fridge, toaster, kettle and coffee maker and there is a small outside terrace. There is also a washing machine in the basement and a downstairs wc.
Stairs from the living room lead up to the first floor and a double bedroom and bathroom with a terrace. The second bedroom is on the next floor. A hair dryer is provided. Two hours cleaning per week is also included.
The Area
South of the rue de Tolbiac is the city’s main Chinatown, an area lined with restaurants, street markets, Vietnamese pho noodle bars and Chinese patisseries. The big Tang Frères supermarket is on avenue d’Ivry. The Butte aux Cailles is a neighbourhood with a village atmosphere and a relaxed, offbeat character, cobblestone streets, old houses and restaurants ranging from inexpensive bistros to ones like Chez Paul, which has a chic, alternative menu of traditional dishes. Montparnasse is walkable but the metro is quicker. Artists like Chagall, Giacommetti and Picasso and writers like Hemmingway, Gertrude Stein and Henry Miller lived and worked there. A walk down rue de la Grand-Chaumière gives a taste of the Montparnasse of their day. The main entrance to the Cemetery, final resting place of the notorious and famous, is on the boulevard Edgar-Quinet, which also has several pleasant cafes and tea rooms. The Jardin de l’Atlantique is a small garden oasis of granite paths, trees and bamboo, suspended over the Montparnasse railway track. At night, the boulevard de Montparnasse really comes alive, when the clubs and cinemas open. Le Dôme is now a fish restaurant and bar. Further along is La Coupole, the huge art deco brasserie. The Latin Quarter, which stretches down to the River Seine, is just beyond. Travel Information
