Beautiful Chateau Mill House in Normandy

3 bedrooms, sleeps up to 6 people. Private trout fishing.
Le Moulin de Pont-Rilly
Pont Rilly dates from 1765, built by the architect used by the daughters of Louis XV and listed as an Historical Monument. There are acres of beautifully laid out park and gardens with centuries old trees and a unique system of canals, bordered by a river. The harmony of the main house and gardens, the family chapel and stables, together with the mill, creates an atmosphere of exceptional peace and beauty, which we hope you will come and share with us for a while.
Négreville is close to Valognes, also known locally as Little Versailles, which has shops, two particularly fine 18th century buildings and a museum dedicated to calvados and cider. The market is every Friday morning. We are 15 minutes from the nearest beach and a short drive from Sainte Mère-l'Eglise, one of the Normandy Landing beaches. Cherbourg is about 20 minutes from here. The mill is about a hundred metres from the main house, quite private and independent, full of character and beautifully furnished. The small courtyard at the front of the house is fenced for the safety of young children and there is private parking.
The house has a sitting room, a large dining room and a fully equipped kitchen that includes a dishwasher and washing machine, ironing facilities, oven and hob, microwave, fridge, coffee maker, kettle and toaster. The house has full central heating for the winter months and logs for the fire are provided. Of the three bedrooms, two are double rooms and one is a twin room, which share two bathrooms between them. Two extra single beds and a cot can be provided on request. There are endless places to walk in the grounds here and for those who like to fish, we have trout in the river and canals (please bring your own rods). We know this area well and will be happy to advise on local restaurants and places to visit.
The Area
The sandy beaches at Barneville-Carteret are popular with families, protected by the Channel Islands and warmed by the Gulf Stream. It is easy from there to get to shops in the town and there are several restaurants to choose from. Fresh oysters and mussels are in abundance and there are excellent seafood restaurants along the coast. Riding stables and tennis courts are within 20 minutes and there is a choice of three golf courses. This part of Normandy has a wild, rugged coast punctuated with bays and inlets whose ever changing colours are shaped by the mood of the sea. This is an area of fine beaches, coastal walks with well mapped GR rambling routes and attractive inland villages and lovely manor houses that huddle behind thick granite walls. Both Millet and Monet were inspired by the light here and produced a number of paintings of the area in the late 1880's. To the north is Omonville-la-Roque in its lovely valley on the tip of Cap de la Hague, which has the distinction of being the location for Roman Polanski's film Tess. South is Coutances (look for the cheese). Back on the coast, is the little Ile de Tatihou, which is a bird sanctuary with Botanical gardens. Beyond Granville, is the great island cathedral of Mont Saint Michel. Travel Information
