Ski Apartment in the Maurienne Valley, Rhone Alps
La Toussuire, near St Jean-de-Maurienne between Grenoble and Valloire
1 bed, sleeps 2 to 4 people
Le Goléon
La Toussuire lies on a vast plateau at an altitude of 1800 metres, at the centre of the Maurienne ski area within reach of roughly twenty other ski stations. The 360 degree views are staggering and the altitude ensures that the days are invariably sunny. There are 32 runs of between 1300 and 2300 metres and 27 km of free lower pistes. Other sports include snowboard, snowblade and snowkiting. La Toussuire and St Jean de Maurienne between them, also cater well for families with tot ski schools and creches, under the watchful eye of qualified professionals who introduce children to the pleasures of a variety of snow sports in a spirit of fun.
Summer brings a different landscape, long warm days and other activities, such as walking in pure mountain air, climbing, fishing in lakes, swimming, golf, paragliding, quad and cycling (La Toussuire was an overnight stop for the Tour de France in 2006). We know this area well and can advise on anything you need to know and arrange an accompanied guide on request. Chambéry, Grenoble and the Italian border are all about an hour. The apartment is on the ground floor, simple but comfortable, air-conditioned, centrally heated, light and sunny. The main room has a double sofa bed, television, and a dining table and opens onto a small balcony with outside furniture. The kitchenette is equipped with an oven and hob, fridge and coffee maker.
Next door is a bedroom with two single bunk beds. The bathroom has a bath and a separate wc. A cot can be provided on request. Two minutes walk from the apartment are a choice of shops, restaurants, ski schools, ski equipment hire shops, mountain bike hire in summer, a cinema, bowling and a nightclub.
The Area
St Jean de Maurienne is about 20 minutes away, a pretty village tucked under the peaks with more Summer and Winter sports facilities and entertainments, a choice of shops, bars, restaurants and a weekly Saturday market in the cathedral square. In July and August, there are night markets and the town holds a succession of events throughout the year. The spectacular col du Galibier near Grenoble and often the highest point on the Tour de France route and others, col de Madeleine, col de Glandon, are all within reach of La Toussuire.
