Large Traditional House in Southern Brittany
Rochefort-en-Terre, between Redon and Vannes, in the Morbihan
7 bedrooms, sleeps up to 12 people
Le Vaucorbet
Our house is right on the edge of Rochefort-en-Terre, surrounded by lawns, trees and fields, built of warm honey coloured stone and very typical of the style of architecture in this part of Brittany. A comfortable base for family or friends from which to discover the pleasures of the Morbihan with lots of space for children to run around in. Rochefort is within walking distance (3 minutes by car), so everything is on hand and the town has something for everyone. Redon is 15 minutes from here, Vannes and the Golf du Morbihan are roughly 25 minutes away.
A country lane leads to the house. It faces south, so gets the sun all day and has peaceful open views. A few steps from the first entrance lead to a study with a fireplace, a children's bedroom with bunk beds, a wc and on to the dining room, which has a huge fireplace, a farmhouse dining table and a corner lounge area. The kitchen has beams and is fully equipped with everything needed: self cleaning oven, hob, microwave, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, a second freezer, coffee maker and other appliances. There is a wine cave and a utility room with a washing machine and dryer. The second entrance opens into a large living room with television, a hi-fi system, books and games of various kinds.
Upstairs are six other bedrooms. A master bedroom with an en suite bathroom with a bath/shower, a single room with a wash basin, a twin room with two children's beds and two double rooms with washbasins. There are also two shower rooms, a separate wc and a large landing, which acts as a play room with a spare bed if needed. The front of the house has a large courtyard leading around to lawns, flowers and fields. There is a play area for children with swings, a slide and a play pool. Bicycles, badminton and table tennis are provided.
The Area
Locally there are tennis courts, a 9-hole golf course and a pony club and another 18-hole golf course about 40 minutes away. You can find a good selection of shops, banks and a supermarket in Malansac, about 5 minutes drive. Questembert (10 km) has a big weekly market, which brings people in from miles around. Buildings adorned with flowers, parks and gardens, cobbled streets and squares romantically lit at night, Renaissance houses and a medieval chateau, leave no doubt that Rochefort-en-Terre is a delight with a surprise around every corner. The town has a pleasantly relaxed atmosphere and is full of amiable cafés and restaurants, artisan shops, art galleries and exhibitions. It has as well, a huge lake with a beach (and life guard) and children's play area, a mountain bike track and secluded places to fish from. The path around the lake is ideal for cycling and walks. Vannes is 25 minutes from here, a town on edge of the Golf du Morbihan, an inland sea with more than forty, mainly uninhabited islands, wildlife reserves, oyster beds and an ever changing landscape. You can get ferries to several of the islands from Vannes. The Ile aux Moins for example, is a little paradise with creeks and beaches, tiny fisherman's cottages and lush, walled gardens. Bicycles are the best way to get around. Travel Information
