Belleroche
Belleroche is an 18th century house overlooking the River Loire, a 15 minute walk from the centre of Amboise, in the heart of the Loire Valley, close to some of the most famous of the Loire châteaux and vineyards. The house is set in a park created more than a hundred years ago with a rose garden, a traditional potager vegetable and herb garden and lovely open views of the river. Tours is 25 minutes from here, Paris is 2 hours by train.
Amboise grew up around the château back in the 16th century to house courtiers and craftsmen and supply the royal court with all its needs. Many splendid town houses along the Rue Victor Hugo remain and today the street is full of shops, cafés and restaurants. Burrowed under great walls of the château is a wine cave, where you can find a huge selection of wines from the Loire vineyards. We are only a short distance from the Vouvray and Montlouis vineyards. We will be happy to help and advise on anything you need to know about the area. Both suites overlook the river and gardens and are very comfortably furnished with period family furniture and en suite bathrooms. Hairdryers are provided.
La Chambre du Pavillon is an elegant double room with a dressing area and a large bathroom with bath, shower and wc. Les Chambres Jumelles is a suite of two rooms, one double, one twin, a dressing area and a bathroom with bath, shower and a separate wc. Breakfast is served in the dining room between 8.30 and 10am.
The Area
You can take trips on the river or fly over the valley in a balloon or helicopter. There is also an excellent golf course near Tour. Of the chateaux, Amboise is the oldest and Chenonceau is a must. Chambord is a massive palace with 440 rooms and almost as many chimneys, Blois was a favourite of Louis XII. The gardens at Chaumont-sur-Loire are worth seeing, as are the lovely classical gardens at Villandry and those at the Priory of Saint-Cosme, which has a gorgeous collection of roses.
