Our summer house is just outside Honfleur, set in a lovely enclosed garden with secluded spots, about 2 minutes walk from a little path leading down to the beach. In the other direction is the Bois du Breuil, visible from the house, which has beautiful woodland walks via a path bordered by rhododendrons and an avenue of centuries old beech trees.
The little village of Equemauville is 4 km from here, which has a supermarket and a boulangerie. Honfleur is 5 km away and has everything you could possibly need: a range of shops, boutiques and art galleries, restaurants and cafés, an organic market every Wednesday, a wonderful fish market four mornings a week and a traditional market on Saturday mornings. Deauville and Trouville, other beaches and several golf courses, are roughly 10 km from the house. The house dates from 1776 and is very traditional in style, a family home where we have spent many happy holidays. Each room is furnished with old country furniture and individually decorated to reflect the harmony of nature around it, birds and flowers, the sea and boats.
The ground floor has a country kitchen with a fireplace, a large dining table and a television, fully equipped with among other things, a dishwasher, washing machine, oven and hob, fridge/freezer, microwave, coffee maker and toaster. The living room is comfortably furnished with a sofa and armchairs, another dining table and television and DVD. Both rooms open straight into the garden. There is also a bathroom with shower, two wash basins and a hairdryer. Upstairs are three double bedrooms, one of which also has a large single bed. All the bedding is new. There is garden furniture, a barbecue, parasols and sunbeds, private parking in the courtyard or garage.
The Area
Saint-Arnoult, near Deauville, is a huge park with a Formula 1 Go-kart track, unique in Europe, which also has a track suitable for children. The lake at Pont-L'Evêque has numerous sports from water scooters, surf biking, wind surfing and canoeing to riding stables (ponies and horses) and an adventurous maze. Saint-Gatien des Bois, also near Deauville has a wonderful discovery route through the forest that takes you through various stages of the development of trees via bridges, ladders, climbing ropes and giant swings. The Amiraute Golf Club, is a 27-hole championship golf course. The Golf Barrière in Deauville is beautifully situated and has a subtly challenging golf course and a Club House. The Golf de Deauville St Gatien (ideal for beginners) has a 27-hole golf course. Le Golf Barrière de St Julien is also 27-holes with a Club House, set in ninety hectares of protected countryside. The coast road from Honfleur to Trouville winds through little villages like Pennedepie, Cricquebœuf and Villerville. Trouville is a delightful fishing village, famous for its restaurants and lovely villas with a quiet beach, ideal for families. Deauville is the grand old lady of the coast, smart with shops and restaurants to match, and a succession of sporting events throughout the year, which includes golf and tennis tournaments, regattas, bridge tournaments and flat racing. Honfleur is on the doorstep; a town that has a character and charm of its own with a relaxed atmosphere, tall houses and narrow streets around the harbour, in a setting that inspired Claude Monet, where you can still see artists at work on the quays.
