Traditional Family Home in Calvados
La Rivière St Sauveur, near Honfleur in Normandy
4 bedrooms, sleeps up to 8 people
La Braisette
Our house is tucked away outside the village of La Rivière St Sauveur, about 5 minutes from Honfleur, near beaches along the coast. This is a well loved family summer home where children can run around freely, set a large garden surrounded by peaceful country views with everything near at hand. This part of France has been a magnet for artists and visitors for centuries. Its lush, varied landscape and apple orchards help to produce the rich larder of butter and cream, cider and calvados apple brandy, super fresh fish and shellfish and an array of luscious cheeses that form the basis of Norman cooking. You have never eaten a Camembert until you have been to Camembert! Deauville is 20 minutes from here, Le Havre is about 30 minutes via the bridge.
Cheerful and easy to live in, La Braisette comprises the main house and an independent guest cottage with two bedrooms, ideal for older children, friends or grandparents. The main house has a large open living room with a fireplace and a wood burning stove, a dining area, television, DVD, a hi-fi system and a large ground floor bedroom with an en suite bathroom and sauna.
The kitchen is separated from the living room by a network of colombage beams and equipped with, amongst other things, a dishwasher and washing machine, an oven and hob, microwave and fridge, coffee maker, toaster and kettle. Upstairs is a play area for children and a twin bedroom. The cottage has two double rooms, a small sitting room with a sofa bed and a bathroom with shower. The terrace outside has outside furniture and looks over the garden to the countryside beyond. A barbecue, table tennis, boules and badminton are also provided. There are riding stables and a golf course close by and endless place to walk and cycle.
The Area
Honfleur has a distinctive charm of its own and has always been popular with Parisians for weekend visits or for Sunday lunch out of town. A warren of tiny streets thread between tall, colourfully painted houses that crowd around the little yachting harbour, guarded by the 16th century Governor's House. Monet lived for a time at the Ferme St-Siméon on the hill behind Honfleur and filled canvas after canvas while he was here. The town still attracts artists and has numerous art galleries and some of the shops are to die for! Market day is every Saturday. Of the towns and village along the coast, Deauville reigns supreme and during the summer, people come as much for the regattas, tennis tournaments or to play golf, as for the beach. The annual Yearling Sales and races are held in the third week of August. Trouville just along from Deauville has much more of a beach atmosphere and caters well for families and children. The beaches at Blonville and Villers sur Mer are quieter and perhaps pleasanter. Water sports are also well catered for and there are restaurants and cafés everywhere. Travel Information
