Les Loges de Brenne
We are in the very heart of France, between the Loire Valley and Burgundy, about 250 km south of Paris, in a relatively undiscovered part of France, in an unspoilt pastoral landscape scattered with lakes and woods. The most famous of the Loire chateaux and the Burgundy border are about an hour from here, so you have the best of both regions. The house is 4 km from the village of Ardentes, 15 minutes from Châteauroux, where you can find a choice of shops, markets and restaurants with good, reasonably priced menus. An ideal location for all ages with something for everyone from fishing to cycling and for those who enjoy country life and a sense of freedom. Bourges is 50 km from here, Tours 80 km.
Open plan and spacious, the house has a warm, peaceful atmosphere and is designed in a clean, modern style with care and an attention to detail. The sitting room has comfortable sofas and chairs, television, DVD and a hi-fi system and a fireplace. The sun room opens straight onto the pool. The dining area has a table that seat up to ten people and everywhere are large windows that let in light and open into the garden.
The kitchen is separated from the main dining area and fully equipped with, amongst other things, an oven and hob, microwave, dishwasher and washing machine, fridge, coffee maker, kettle and toaster. There are three double bedrooms upstairs and a mezzanine used as a play area with two single beds if needed. There are two bathrooms, one with a wc, the other with a shower and separate wc. A hairdryer is provided. The garden is about a hectare in size, so there is lots of room for children to let off steam and quiet places to read or for a siesta. The pool is terraced and equipped with sunbeds and there is a barbecue. Garage parking is provided.
The Area
Near the house is a lane that begins a walk or cycle ride to hidden places off the beaten track. The village has a large swimming pool, tennis courts, a football pitch and places for a day's fishing. Within half an hour is a large lake with a beach and water sports facilities including water skiing. The lovely town of La Châtre is roughly 20 minutes drive and has shops and supermarkets, as well as cafés (try a kir berrichone, cassis with red wine) and restaurants, plus a weekly market on Saturday mornings. Just North of La Châtre is Nohant, home of the prolific and influential 19th century writer George Sand. She lived most of her life there and entertained some of the most celebrated writers and thinkers of her day. Many of the great châteaux of the Loire Valley are about an hour’s drive from here and the vineyards of Sancerre and Burgundy itself, are less than an hour away to the east. Travel Information
