Chalet Apartment in the centre of Valloire, Rhone Alps
Valloire, an hour from Chambéry, in Eastern France
3 bedrooms + mezzanine, sleeping up to 12 people
Chalet Pierrot
As a ski centre, Valloire caters for all levels of experience and has more than 150 kms of ski runs at different levels of altitude and a variety of ski lifts and cable cars. It also has good cross-country skiing, bowling, ice skating and a sports centre with a sauna. In summer, Valloire becomes a different place, popular with walkers and climbers, and cyclists, who like to follow part of the gruelling Tour de France route. There is also trout fishing, tennis courts and a swimming pool and, a kilometre away, a golf course.
Valloire is between the Télégraphe and the Galibier peaks and is the oldest established ski centre in the Alps, which has managed to combine good summer facilities together with excellent ski facilities in winter without losing its essential character. The chalet is a short walk from the centre of Valloire, shops and a choice of restaurants. The nearest airports are Chambéry, an hour away, or Lyon or Geneva, both roughly two hours away. Chalet Pierrot is brand new, designed to provide modern comfort combined with traditional character and has three apartments on three floors. Pierrot 3 (above) is the largest apartment. This apartment has a large open plan main room with a sofa bed, plus a spare double bed if needed, television and a corner kitchen with a dining table that seats up to twelve people. The kitchen is fully equipped with amongst other things, a dishwasher, washing machine and dryer, an oven and hob, microwave, fridge, coffee maker and toaster, kettle and all the glasses, dishes and utensils. The room has picture windows opening onto a terrace.
There are three bedrooms in total, two double rooms and one room with 4 single beds, plus a mezzanine with 4 single beds, all with cupboards and wardrobes. The two bathrooms, one with bath, one with shower, have heated towel rails. Outside is a garden with outside furniture and a barbecue. All three apartments may be taken together on request, sleeping up to 20 people.
The Area
In the summer the valley is very different, changing into an alpine landscape scattered with chapels and tiny hamlets, the climate is warm and the air pure. There are tennis courts and golf courses, riding stables and hang-gliding and a swimming pool, plus over 130 kms of trail for those who love to walk and climb, or cycle, including the Col du Galibier, which is often on the Tour de France route. The snow is usually good from the beginning of December until the end of April and there are a variety of runs to suit everyone, ranging from beginners to challenging for both downhill and cross-country. There are 150 kms of downhill skiing with 78 individual pistes served by 34 ski lifts. Skiing and snowboarding above 2500m throughout the season. Good ski school and activities for children. Valloire also has an ice rink, bowling, a library, a cinema and a disco. Travel Information
