Our house is in Avrillé, a quiet town 2 km from Angers, close to the confluence of the Mayenne and Sarthe rivers. Shops, banks and restaurants are within walking distance and you can be in deep countryside in minutes by car, where the rhythm of life continues as it has done for centuries. An hour from here are some of the most beautiful of the Loire châteaux. The Avrillé Golf Club (36 holes, par 71) is a kilometre away. Several others include the Angers Golf and Country Club (18 holes, par 72).
We have a comfortable double room with an en suite bathroom with shower and tea and coffee making facilities. A second twin room makes up a suite for family or friends travelling together. Ideal at any time of year, for a few days break, a family holiday, a weekend playing golf, or as an overnight stop on the way to and from the South, you will always be warmly welcomed here.
The guest sitting room is quiet and pleasantly furnished with comfortable armchairs, a place to relax in before a day out. Breakfast is usually served in the dining room area or on the adjoining terrace. There is outside furniture in the garden and private parking. We know the area well and will be happy to recommend local restaurants and to advise and help with anything you need to know.
The Area
The Pays de la Loire is beautiful part of France between Normandy, Brittany and the Loire Valley, an area that has remained delightfully unspoilt and undiscovered with a tremendous tradition for good food, if you like to eat well. It is idyllic farming country, crossed with rivers and dotted with lakes that attract anglers and boaters, golfers, cyclists and walkers, scattered with historic towns and châteaux, lovely gardens, the Anjou vineyards and pretty villages. Angers is the main centre for Anjou wines, so there is plenty of opportunity to sample the wines and visit some of the wine villages to the north and south of the town. The narrow streets in the centre around the cathedral have lovely 15th century buildings, which lead through to the main shopping area. Rue St Laud is a pedestrian street packed with shops and restaurants. The massive 13th century castle has walls that stretch for a kilometre, punctuated by seventeen enormous round towers. The castle's great treasure is a remakable series of seventy 14th century tapestries illustrating the Apocalypse of Saint John the Divine, complete with plagues of locusts, rivers of blood and whores of Babylon. The deep moat has been made into beautiful formal gardens. Travel Information
