Beach Villa at Cap Ferret in South West France
On the Arcachon Basin, an hour from Bordeaux

Les Mimosas
Our villa is at Cap Ferret, about an hour from Bordeaux, on the tip of the Arcachon Basin close to Le Canon, one of several oyster villages along the coast. The nearest beach is about 5 minutes walk from here, on the Arcachon side of the peninsular, so it is sheltered, peaceful and calm, ideal for children. On the Atlantic side are vast sandy beaches, great for surfing and body boarding. Cap Ferret has shops, markets and a choice of bars and restaurants overlooking the sea.
Arcachon is across the bay from here. A favourite place to weekend with people from Bordeaux who like to sail, smart, cheerful and lively with a succession of regattas, golfing tournaments and other events taking place all through the year. The two boulevards that run parallel to the beach have shops, open-air restaurants and a Casino in the old château. The covered market has wonderful displays of fish and shellfish, fruit and vegetables that are works of art in themselves. The rest of the town is quieter, scattered higher up in the forested hills behind with stylish houses set back in large gardens.
The villa is set in a garden with mimosa trees, a place where we have spent many happy times. Everything is new with comfort and well being in mind. The main living room and dining room is light and sunny and looks out onto the garden and woodland beyond. All the appliances in the kitchen are new and include a large fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washing machine, oven, hob and microwave, coffee maker, kettle and toaster. There is television, DVD, lots of books and some children’s games. We also have bicycles. Of the 5 bedrooms, 3 are double rooms and 2 are twin rooms. A cot and highchair can be provided and there is a bathroom and a shower room. The garden and terrace are equipped with a barbecue, table and chairs, sun loungers.
The Area
There are several sailing club facilities (with or without lessons) that have courses for children on a small catamaran and others for older children on a 420 and Hobbycat, at the Club de la Vigne. There are also adult courses on a catamaran or cruiser at the Cap Ferret Club des Américains. The coast is dotted with little fishing villages and numerous little harbours, bays and creeks. Large areas of the Basin are devoted to the cultivation of oysters, which are available everywhere, delicious with a chilled glass of wine! Just outside Arcachon is the Dune du Pilat, a dune to beat all dunes, a great hill of sand 114 metres high and nearly 3 km long, which can be a challenge to climb but well worth it for the fantastic views. As Bordeaux is only an hour from here, you can easily spend a day there, or amongst the Médoc, Saint Emilion, Graves and Pessac-Léognan vineyards. Travel Information
