Independent Vineyard Cottage with pool near St Emilion
Fougueyrolles, between Bordeaux and Bergerac, Southwest France
3 ensuite bedrooms, sleeps 6 people. Plus Farmhouse B&B with pool.
Clos de Peyre
Viva is a traditional stone house, entirely restored with its own pool, on our own vineyard in the middle of the Montravel vineyards, 35 kms from St Emilion. The chambres d'hôtes are in our farmhouse on another part of the estate and have been made as comfortable as the cottage. The farmhouse has a pool as well, which you are welcome to share with us.
Bergerac in the Dordogne is only 22 kms from here in an area scattered with ancient towns and villages, hidden valleys, farms and vines. The village of Fougueyrolles is ten minutes from Clos de Peyre and has essential shops with a greater selection of shops and restaurants in Ste Foy-le-Grande. Market day there is on Saturday morning.
Viva, the cottage, is pleasantly furnished and has a warm and relaxed atmosphere. There is a living room with television and a telephone and a large fully equipped kitchen, which includes a microwave, dishwasher, washing machine and dryer, and a storeroom. The three bedrooms each have their own bathroom. The swimming pool (8 x 4 metres) is terraced and there are sunbeds and a barbecue to enjoy during the long summer evenings. The Farmhouse Bed & Breakfast The three double bedrooms have private bathrooms and breakfast is served on the veranda. There is also a television corner and a kitchenette where you can make snacks. The swimming pool (10 x 5 metres), sometimes shared with us, is yours to use when you wish. Sauvignon is on the ground floor and opens onto the garden. It has twin beds and a bathroom with shower Merlot and Semillon are double rooms on the first floor each with a bathroom with shower and lovely views of the vineyards. The Area
There are lots of walks through the vineyards around us and we have bicycles available. Fougeyrolles has a lake where you can jet-ski and enjoy other sporting activities. Within 15 kms are tennis courts, riding stables, rowing and canoeing on the Dordogne river and lots of places where you can fish and swim safely. It's easy from here to spend a day in the Dordogne finding a market or visiting the châteaux and, another visiting the Bordeaux vineyards. St Emilion not only produces fine wines but is a pretty village with houses built on a small ridge of land overlooking the river with narrow, cobbled and often steep streets. It also makes mouthwatering macaroons and a special chocolate mousse laced with rum. There is an endless choice of reasonably priced restaurants if you are prepared to travel, with menus which match the local wines, such as lamb in the Médoc, snails in the Graves, foie gras in Sauterns and lamprey, baby eels caught in the Gironde, in St Emilion.
