Apartment in a Classical 18th Century Château in the Loire
Montigny-sur-Avre, 80 minutes from Paris
3 bedrooms, sleeps up to 7 people. Riding and Private Fishing.
Le Château de Montigny-sur-Avre
Listed as a Historical Monument, the château has a classical early 18th century elegance, in a beautiful setting on the banks of the River Avre, peacefully in harmony with the surrounding trees and parkland, water and green meadows where horses graze. The château was the birthplace of Mgr. François de Laval, founder of the Catholic Church in North America, Quebec in particular. Montigny-sur-Avre is in the Loire, near Verneuil-sur-Avre, close to the Normandy border, 110 kms west of Paris, so you can enjoy both the pleasures of the city and the beauty of the countryside.
Awarded 4 epis for comfort and charm, the apartment is on two floors in the main part of the château, completely self contained and independent and designed to provide maximum comfort.
There are three bedrooms on the first floor, furnished with period furniture with lovely views over the park. Two of the rooms, one of which has an ensuite bathroom have double beds in an alcove, the third bedroom has three single beds. There is another bathroom on the landing, which also has a small sitting room area. Downstairs is a comfortable sitting room with a fireplace and a billiard table and television, telephone and hi-fi. The kitchen/dining room is equipped with a dishwasher, washing machine and dryer amongst other things. Logs are provided and there is a cot and highchair if needed. A door leads straight into the park, where there is garden furniture and a barbecue. The Area
Our equestrian farm in the grounds of the château, has both horses and ponies and can organise treks for riders of all levels in the Avre Valley. Or you can simply hire a horse and ride through the grounds. Owners, if they are able to, are welcome to bring their own horse, which can be stabled or put out to graze with the others. There is private fishing in the canal in the grounds and good fishing in the river. We can provide rods. Verneuil, a short drive from here, has all essential shops and there are a good choice of restaurants within a reasonable distance, especially deeper into Normandy, if you are prepared to travel a little. There are golf courses and Chartres is about an hour from here. Travel Information
