Chambres d'Hôtes Bed and Breakfast in the Seine Maritime
Epretot, near Le Havre, Deauville and Honfleur in Northern France
3 en suite double rooms. Gite, 1 bedroom, sleeps 1 or 2 people.
Manoir de Bray
Peacefully set in beautiful park and gardens just outside Epretot, the manoir has been in our family since it was built in 1802. We are between Normandie, Picardie and the Ile de France, an hour and a half from Paris, in a valley that is surrounded by cereal fields and farmland peppered with villages, cottages and manor houses. The house is 15 minutes from Le Havre and 30 minutes from the pleasant, elegant town of Deauville. Honfleur, Étretat and Fécamp, their beaches, shops and restaurants are also an easy drive from here.
The chambres d'hôtes bed and breakfast rooms all have en-suite bathrooms, television and are very comfortably furnished with period family furniture. There are also two salons with fireplaces to relax in and a library. Dinner is available on request.
There are three double bedrooms with bathrooms in total and a family suite for 2/4 people. The Gite, Le Hetre Pourpre, is part of the manoir and has a double bedroom, a bathroom and a living room/dining room with television and a hi-fi. The kitchen is equipped with an oven and hob, microwave, fridge and washing machine. Like the rest of the house, the apartment is very comfortably furnished and ideal for those who prefer to be independent. Brunch at the gite is available on request. The grounds are yours to enjoy. The Area
Étretat has a very good golf course, there are riding stables close by and some wonderful walks. Most of the beaches along the coast have facilities for most water sports. Honfleur is quite different from other places with its tall, slate-fronted houses tightly packed around the harbour, the 16th century governor's house guarding the harbour entrance. The cathedral in the main square is quite unique in that it was built entirely of wood by the Honfleur shipbuilders of that time. The area has attracted painters for more than a hundred years and a group of Impressionists, including Boudin and Monet, settled at the Ferme St-Siméon on the hill behind. Artists still jostle for a place around the old port and the town's charm is enhanced by numerous art galleries. Of the string of other places along the Côte Fleurie, on whose long sandy beaches the fashion for sea bathing was born in the 19th century, Deauville reigns supreme. Its neo rustic villas, smart shops and night-life attract many people who come for the yearling sales and racing, the regattas and to play roulette, golf, polo or tennis. Inland is some of Normandy's most beautiful countryside, heavy with blossom or apples and thick with bright green pastures and grazing cattle, which produce the rich creamy milk that goes into making Camembert and Pont L'Evéque cheese. To appreciate the intimate charm of the countryside though, it is best to take the country roads to see the colourful manor houses or cottages with flowers planted in the thatch and noisy farmyards.
