Les Appartements
The 19th century Haussmann style apartment building is in the Quartier de l'Europe not far from the old Opéra and the Gare de St Lazare, about fifteen minutes from the Tuileries, the Place de la Concord, the Louvre and the Arc de Triomphe. The apartments are on the 4th and 5th floors, accessed by a lift and overlook a quiet interior courtyard garden. Both apartments are centrally heated and furnished with attention to detail in order to make them as comfortable and welcoming as possible.
The 4th floor apartment has a small entrance hall leading to the living room/dining room, kitchen and bedroom. The main room is furnished in pine and has a round dining table, a dresser and side cupboard, a desk and a double sofa bed, chairs, television and video. A computer and Internet connection can be arranged on request. The kitchen is fitted and has a washing machine and dryer, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, four hot-plates and a microwave. The double bedroom has a wardrobe, bedside tables with lamps and large curtained windows. The bathroom has a vanity unit and a bath with shower.
The 5th floor apartment has a sunny living room/dining room with television, video and a hi-fi, a study area (computer with Internet connection can be provided on request), a dining table for six, various chairs and a fold-up double bed that can accommodate two extra people if needed. The kitchen has fitted cupboards and is fully equipped including amongst other things, a dishwasher and washing machine, fridge/freezer, two ovens, a hob and a microwave. The bedroom has large windows looking onto the courtyard with a comfortable double bed, bedside tables and lamps, a wardrobe and chest of drawers. The bathroom has an enclosed shower and a vanity unit with cupboard space. There is parking near by and the apartment building is close to four métro stations. The Area
The Opéra is an architectural extravaganza and evokes the mood of opera at its very grandest. Outside it's covered with sculptures depicting dance and music, right up to the copper dome, topped by Apollo. The interior is a treasure trove of of frescoes, sculptures, grand staircases, marble, gold leaf and precious stones. It's not hard to see why the legend of the phantom of the opera started here. The elegant interior of the Café de la Paix overlooking the place de l'Opéra still gives a sense of stepping back into the 19th century. Just behind the Opéra, along the boulevard Haussmann are some of the big department stores, Galeries Lafayette and Au Printemps amongst others and near the Madeleine are the dazzling shop windows of Fauchon, Paris' most extravagant delicatessen. A walk down the boulevard des Capucines takes you past the Lumière brothers first cinema show in 1895 (at No.14). Opposite, is the Olympia concert hall was where Edith Piaf used to sing. A little further south down to the River Seine are the Tuileries and the Louvre, the Palais-Royal and its delightful gardens, the rue de Rivoli with its graceful arcades and shops, leading to the place de la Concorde and on. North of the apartment takes you into Montmartre to the Sacré Coeur. Travel Information
