Studio Apartment In The Centre Of Nice
Provence Côte d'Azur, South of France
Sleeps 2/4 people
Le Studio
Nice is regarded as the capital of the Côte d'Azur and is in a beautiful setting, surrounded by a circle of low hills behind and the startling blue of the Mediterranean beyond the graceful Promenade des Anglais and the beach stretching along the whole of the seafront. It has a gentle all year round climate and is a blend of ornate 19th century buildings with very good shops, many cafe terraces and some excellent restaurants, and the colourful Italianate architecture of the old town behind the port.
From here it's an easy drive to Monaco and Menton on the Italian border and Cannes and St Tropez in the other direction, or to head into the hills to walk and cycle, play golf and visit some of the hilltop villages and vineyards. The studio is in an apartment building situated in the centre of town with views beyond the fountains in front, towards the picturesque old quarter and makes a good base from which to explore the pleasures of Nice and simply relax on the beach and enjoy all the water sports facilities. It is close to the Casino, near the Place Masséna and a short walk from the Promenade des Anglais and the pedestrian shopping centre of town. There is a living room with large picture windows and a separate bathroom with bath and a kitchen. The salon has two sofa beds and a dining table, television, video and hi-fi. Internet access is available on request. The kitchen is equipped with everything necessary, including a washing machine and fridge, an oven and hob, a microwave, toaster and a breakfast table. If places are available, there is private underground parking beneath the apartment building. The Area
There is a wonderful flower market in the old town on Friday mornings, as well as a big fruit and vegetable market, full of the colours and scents of Provence. The Nice Carnival in early Spring has been held in some form or another since the 14th century and for two weeks the whole town is a Mardi Gras party. Cimiez in the hills behind Nice, apart from its villas and grand turn-of-the-century hotels, has two a museums, one devoted to Matisse, the other to Chagall. Villefranche-sur-Mer is a delightful old fishing port just beyond Cap Ferrat on the way to Monaco. The Principality is a tiny sovereign state completely surrounded by France and best known for its Casino in Monte Carlo and the Grand Prix race. The parks and gardens in Monte Carlo are very beautiful and just beyond the Grand Prix hairpin bend, is the Galéa collection of dolls, thought by many to be the best in the world. Monaco itself has a pleasant old world atmosphere. Close to the palace is the Jardin Exotique, which has thousands of cacti and other succulents as well as breathtaking views across to Monte Carlo. Worth a visit too, is the Oceanographic Museum, which has more than 4000 species of fish from all over the world. Menton, on the Italian border, is a typical Italian town set in France. The ochre painted houses complete with laundry strung across narrow streets, cluster around the church of St-Michel in the little square; a lovely setting for summer evening concerts. The Musée Jean-Cocteau there, has a good collection of the artist's work and the Colombières gardens have a splendid collection of Mediterranean shrubs and flowers. Travel Information
