Independent Country Cottage with pool in the Loire
Ligueil, near Loches, 40 kms from Tours, in Central France
2 bedrooms, sleeps 4/5 people
Les Pacauderies
The cottage is part of our traditional Touraine farm, which was built in 1880 and is situated in countryside near Ligueil, within reach of some of the finest of the Loire châteaux, in an area known more for its gentle countryside, rivers and forests and hundreds of small lakes. The cottage is a short distance from the main house and is entirely private and independent with its own entrance.
Ligueil is our nearest town, 3 kms away and has a good choice of shops, a weekly market, restaurants and all general facilities. Loches is 15 kms from here. An old medieval city full of history and charm, Loches is dominated by its château set on a hill, high above the Indre river and the modern part of the town. There is a lovely walk through the Renaissance quarter with ornately decorated houses, a fine gateway and a 16th century tower, to the 13th century Porte Royale, the entrance to the castle and the old town, which still has some elegant private houses. Paris is an hour away by train, Poitiers is 80 kms from here.
The cottage, comfortably furnished, has a living room with a fireplace made of local stone, which makes it cosy and relaxing, a dining room and a well equipped kitchen with dishwasher and washing machine, oven and hob, fridge and various appliances. Upstairs are two bedrooms, one double and one twin and a bathroom with shower and separate wc. The garden is quiet and peaceful, there is garden furniture and a barbecue. The pool is shared with the owners. We will be happy to help with any local information you may need. The Area
Riding is a great way to see the country around here, cycling another. There are also some delightful walks in the Parc de la Brenne, a nature reserve with protected flora and fauna and a variety of wildlife; herons and other birds, red squirrels and deer, rabbits and hares. There is a golf course, many good places to fish, or you can go gliding, all within 10 to 15 kms. Not far from Loches is Montrésor, in a lovely setting beside the little Indrois river. Its château dates from the 10th century and within the medieval walls is a late 15th century manor house, beautifully restored and furnished by the owners. Further on is Valençay, well worth the drive to see the magnificent classical Renaissance château there with its great domed towers. The furnishings inside are mostly Louis XVI and Empire with many beautiful object d'art and peacocks, black swans, sheep and deer wander freely around the park and gardens. The old town in Tours is a maze of narrow streets and ancient houses, new shops and lively bars and restaurants. There is a wine museum in the cellars of St Julien, a modern stained glass museum and a Fine Arts museum in the elegant Bishop's Palace, stuffed with treasures. Not far from Tour is the great Château de Chenonceaux, built weightlessly across the river Cher with gardens laid out by Catherine de Médicis. Quietly hidden away at the end of a secluded valley, the splendid late Renaissance Château du Gué-Péan is worth a detour. Still being restored by its enthusiastic owners, the rooms are an amazing mixture of antique jumble, from Sicilian puppets to Talleyrand's gigantic waistcoat and copies of de Gaulle's Will. Just as attractive is the friendly, rather chaotic family atmosphere. Travel Information
