Charming Country House in the Lot et Garonne
Saint Eutrope de Born, 35 km from Bergerac, in South West France
4 bedrooms, sleeps 7 people. Private pool.
La Beyssade
The house is part of the country village of Saint Eutrope de Born, 2 kms from the medieval bastide town of Villeréal, 35 kms south of Bergerac on the border between the Lot et Garonne and the Dordogne, both lovely regions scattered with woods and valleys, farms, orchards and ancient villages. It has an enormous timeless charm and is a place where you can regain a sense of peace and blissfully contemplate.
Villeréal is small bastide town dating from the end of the 13th century with a covered market hall dating back to the 15th century and history relates that the weekly markets have taken place every Saturday since 1453. Market day is a delight, when you can taste and buy fresh produce and wines and experience a real piece of local life and culture. In the summer there is another morning market on a Wednesday and an evening market on Monday in the village square. An event not to be missed! Three good restaurants, hairdressers, banks, a pharmacy, butchers, dry cleaners and other shops provide you with everything else you could need. If this all sounds too much you might prefer just to sit in the sun at the Café Moderne sipping a pastis and watching the world go by! The house is attractively and comfortably furnished and decorated and has a large fully equipped kitchen, which includes a dishwasher, a dining room and living room. There are four bedrooms that can accommodate up to seven people and two bathrooms. There is also television, a CD system and a laundry with a washing machine.
Outside is a large garden with fruit trees amongst others and two terraces with garden furniture, plus a 12 x 6 metre private pool. There are also four bicycles available. The country lanes around here are quiet, driving is a pleasure and you can cycle for miles without meeting a soul.
The Area
Montpazier is another bastide town not far from here that is perhaps the most charming of them all. It lies on a hilltop slumbering in the sun, the amber coloured houses and narrow streets leading to the arcaded market square with shops behind the arches, and remains unhurried and unchanged. The chateaux of Biron, Beynac, Castelnau and Bonaguil are all under an hour's drive away and there are several remarkable prehistoric caves to visit an easy drive away. Restaurants range from small country or villages to gastronomic, all reasonably priced and within 30 minutes you can be in the Bergerac vineyards. Travel Information
