Two Apartments in a Languedoc Village House
Servian, near Béziers in Southern France
Apartment 1: 1 bedroom, sleeps 2 people. Apartment 2: 2 bedrooms, sleeps 4 people
The Apartments
Our house is situated close to the main central square in Servian, a typical 1890 village house in a typical Languedoc village in the midst of the Herault vineyards between Béziers and Pézenas that has been completely restored throughout and made into three apartments, one of which is ours. Servian has a choice of local shops a step away and three markets a week.
We are surrounded by vineyards where you can taste some of the best wines in the region, La Baume, San Martin and St Chinian amongst others. The mountains are only 20 minutes away, a different world where you can walk and cycle for miles, ride, fish or canoe. Cap d'Agde on the Mediterranean coast, 15 minutes away has beautiful sandy beaches, every kind of water sports imaginable including an Aqualand that is great fun for children with wave machines and water slides. There is also a superb professionally designed golf course and numerous cafés and restaurants. Montpellier and Carcassonne are both an hour from here.
Apartment 1 is on the first floor and ideal for two people. It has an open plan living room with a balcony, television and video and a fitted kitchen area equipped with an oven and hob, microwave, fridge and washing machine. The apartment has a double bedroom and a bathroom. Apartment 2, also on the first floor, has two bedrooms and a bathroom and a large living room with a dining table, television and video and fireplace that leads onto a private terrace with garden furniture. The kitchen is fully equipped with a washing machine, fan oven and hob, microwave and fridge. The Area
Beziers is 10 minutes from Servian, a market town full of history with a huge Gothic Cathedral at its centre. It has a variety of shops, art galleries, squares with pavement cafés and restaurants and a covered market that is open daily, as well as weekly markets where you can find colourful piles of gleaming fruit and vegetables, freshly caught fish, crates of oysters, scallops, cheeses, pâtés and hams, olives, flowers and more. The Canal Du Midi passes through the town and its possible to hire a boat and spend the day idleling along under the shade of the great plane trees that line the tow path on either side. Pézenas is a pretty medieval town with fine 16th and 17th century houses in the old centre, which has hardly changed at all since then. There are craft and antique shops, where you can sometimes find a bargain an excellent market on Saturday mornings and several bars and restaurants. The main waterfront at Sète along the coast has a lively relaxed atmosphere and there are some excellent unpretentious restaurants regularly used by local people, always a good sign, including several good seafood restaurants.
