The Apartment
The 19th century Haussmann apartment building is in the Quartier de l'Europe not far from the old Opéra, about 15/20 minutes walk from the Tuileries, the Place de la Concord, the Louvre and the Champs-Elysées. The apartment is on the 5th floor, accessed via a lift or carpeted staircase and has an entry phone that can be used either from the street or from the lift. The building has a quiet interior courtyard garden.
The apartment is centrally heated and furnished with attention to detail in order to make it as pleasant and welcoming as possible. The entrance hall of the apartment has a window looking onto the interior courtyard and leads to a living room, the main bedroom, a second bedroom/study and the kitchen. The balconies have garden furniture and potted plants in summer. The salon is large with polished wood floors and three double door windows opening onto a balcony overlooking the street. There are two marble fireplaces with an overmantle mirror and bookshelves at either end of the room. The furnishings are comfortable and include two leather sofas, a dining table that can seat eight people, several other tables, lamps, television, video and a hi-fi system.
The main bedroom has wood floors with mats, balcony doors and a fireplace. There is a double bed, bedside tables, wardrobe and a chest of drawers, a television and hi-fi system. The study bedroom has a double futon bed that acts as a sofa during the day, an easy chair, a desk, shelves and an armoire. A spare bed can be added if necessary. Use of the telephone is limited to the Paris area and there are internet facilities on request. The bathroom has a bath with shower attachment, washbasin, cupboards, towel rails and spot lights and a separate wc. It communicates directly with the main bedroom but also has an entrance from the hall. The kitchen is at the end of the hallway and is equipped with everything needed, including a dishwasher and washing machine, two fridges, a freezer, microwave and hob. There is parking about 100 metres from the apartment and it is close to four metro stations, Europe, Liège, Rome and Place de Clichy that will connect you with most parts of Paris and beyond. The stations at Saint Lazare and Opéra are also close by. Just behind the Opéra, along the boulevard Haussmann are some of the big department stores, Galeries Lafayette and Au Printemps amongst others. Near the Madeleine are the dazzling shop windows of Fauchon, Paris' most extravagant delicatessen. A walk along the boulevard des Capucines takes you past the Lumière brothers first cinema show in 1895 (at No.14). Opposite, the Olympia concert hall was where Edith Piaf used to sing. Down towards the River Seine are the Tuileries and the Louvre, the Palais-Royal and its delightful gardens, the rue de Rivoli with its graceful arcades and shops, leading to the place de la Concorde and the Champs Elysées. North of the apartment takes you into Montmartre and to the Sacré Coeur. Travel Information
