Traditional Country Chambres d'Hotes in the Loire
Genillé, near some of the great châteaux of Central France
3 en suite double rooms

La Cadoise

Our Touraine longhouse is very typical of this area of the Indre et Loire, a family home with three ensuite double or family guest rooms, where you will be warmly welcomed. The house is tucked into the hollow of a valley in the middle of fields bordered by a forest, where the colours change with the seasons.

The area around here is a country lovers paradise with some marvellous walks through the Loches Forest, where you can often find wild mushrooms at certain times of year. Towards the end of August and through September, you may hear the call of rutting stags. Spring and early summer brings wild flowers, some increasingly rare.

Genillé is a small village 10 kms from Loches that has a variety of local shops and two restaurants, one particularly good. The great Château de Chenonceau, built by a succession of Queens, is 15 kms from here. Tours is 45 kms away, Paris is two and a half hours by car.

The bed and breakfast rooms have been individually furnished in a pleasant country style. The double bedroom is on the ground floor. Two of the rooms have a double bed and two single beds, ideal for a family and spacious and comfortable for one or two people. They all have an en suite bathroom with shower and their own private entrance.

Breakfast is usually either in the dining room or on fine days, outside in the garden. There is a swimming pool and garden furniture scattered around in quiet spots.

The Area

We specialise in hand painted furniture design, which we produce in our studio. Courses are available on request for anyone who may be interested in learning the techniques involved.

A short walk from La Cadoise are riding stables that cater for all levels of experience, who will arrange accompanied treks. Close to the village is a small tributary of the Indre river where you can find quiet places for a day's fishing. Five minutes away by car is a lake with water sports facilities and there is an 18-hole golf course 15 minutes from here.

The old medieval part of Loches high on the hill above the town is approached through a lovely Renaissance quarter of ornately decorated house and through the 13th century gateway are some elegant private houses. Loches has several good restaurants and two markets a week, on Wednesday and Saturday mornings.

Château de Chenonceau never fails to delight. Built across the River Cher, the view from the formal gardens alone is worth the visit. Azay-le-Rideaux is another favourite. Graceful and perfectly proportioned, it is beautifully set amongst trees on the edge of a village, moated by the Indre river. The château at Valençay is a magnificent example of classical Renaissance, the furnishings are luxurious and peacocks, black swans and deer wander in the park and gardens.
