Two Studio Apartments with infinity pool
Saint Remy de Provence, near Avignon, in the South of France
1 bedroom each, sleeping 2 or 2/3 people.
The Apartments
The house is in a magical situation at the foot of the Alpilles hills, just outside Saint Rémy de Provence, 25 kms from Avignon. This is the landscape that inspired painters such as Van Gogh, Cezanne and Matisse, who tried to capture the extraordinary and colour and light here, an area of plains dotted with cyress trees, orchards and olive groves, alive with the song of cigales and the heady scent of wild herbs.
Saint Rémy has always attracted artists of all kinds and people who prefer a more relaxed way of life. The old part has all the charm of a typical provencal village with a circular boulevard shaded by plane trees and there are open air cafes and restaurants ranging from bistro to gastronomic. It is easy to go into Arles of an evening from here and look up at the same brilliant stars that fired Van Gogh's creativity. Dou Calan is a traditional, stone built house dating from 1857, surrounded by a Mediterranean garden, pines trees, vines and lovely views of the Alpilles. The apartments are the wing of the main house, are comfortably furnished and have private terraces.
Lavande has a large double bedroom with a sofa and writing desk, a closet, television and a bathroom with two hand basins, a corner bath and an Italian shower with a separate wc. The kitchenette includes a dishwasher, oven and microwave. The terrace overlooks the swimming pool and has open views of the Alpilles hills. Romarin is a little larger, has a double bedroom with an armoire, chest of drawers and a sitting area with a sofa, a smaller bedroom with television and a shower room. Ideal for a couple with a child. The kitchenette is equipped with a dishwasher, oven and microwave amongst other things and the terrace has comfortable outside furniture and views of the Alpilles. The garden is large, infinity pool is in a pleasant, sunny spot and equipped with poolside furniture and there is a bar and an oven for poolside snacks on another terrace. There is also a large private parking area.
The Area
There are five golf courses in the area, riding stables around the corner, tennis and cycling and just outside St Rémy is a serious gliding centre. Les Baux is an area that is known for its fruity, single pressed olive oil, which now has its own appellation controllee and there are several other varieties, each distinct in their own way, which you can taste at the olive oil mills. There are also some excellent local vineyards and Châteauneuf du Pape and the many of the Côte du Rhône vineyards are within an hour’s drive. A day out can take you to the beautiful Luberon, the Camargue and the Mediterranean coast, all within an easy drive. Travel Information
