Le Mas
The house is situated a kilometre from the village of Ille sur Têt, 20 kms from Perpignan on the Mediterranean coast. The main road into Perpignan is easily accessible from the house, although it is surrounded by fields with views of the Canigou hills and the Pyrenees and set in a typical Mediterranean garden.
The village has a choice of shops, banks and a supermarket and for every day needs and there are others in villages around. Perpignan is a sunny, spirited Catalan town with its own unique history and pleasant, relaxed atmosphere, which has markets on most days of the week and a huge flea market at the weekend. In the lovely Têt Valley are villages where life continues as it has always been and people are open and friendly and there are some marvellous places to walk, full of wild flowers, butterflies and birds; you may even glimpse a shy mountain ibex or wild boar. Within a short drive of the villa are lakes and rivers where you can fish
The villa has been divided into two separate apartments suitable for two families or a group of friends, one with one bedroom, the other with two bedrooms. The bottom apartment has a living room and dining room with a sofa bed, television, video and music, a double bedroom and a shower room. The kitchen is equipped with an oven and hob, microwave, dishwasher and washing machine and a fridge, as well as a toaster and coffee maker. The top apartment has a living room with a dining area and television and a kitchen with a dishwasher and washing machine, microwave, oven and hob, fridge, coffee maker and toaster. There are two bedrooms, one double, the other with two single beds, plus a shower and wc. Beside the villa is a large pool terrace with a barbecue, sunbeds, table and chairs and an oval pool measuring 10 x 5 metres. The rest of the garden has shady spots and a small boules pitch. The Area
St Cyprien-Plage or Canet-Plage are the main beaches on the coast, which have safe bathing areas with lifeguards, activities for children and a variety of water sports facilities. St Cyprien has a golf course and is also a fishing port, where you can buy fresh fish directly from the boats most afternoons. A few minutes north or south are stretches of beach that are less crowded and have a certain wild charm. Further along the coast is Collioure, and the Banyuls wine growing area and from there, you can cross over into Spain and spend a day in Barcelona or in Figueres visiting the extraordinary Dali Museum. Céret in the Têt valley has a modern-art gallery with works by Picasso, Miro, Matisse and Chagall. When Picasso was working in the village, he sketched the Sardana, the local Catalan dance, which you can still see and join in with, in the streets under the shade of the old plane trees. During the summer months Perpignan and surrounding villages are alive with music and festivals to celebrate the fruit and wine harvests. Prades, home of the cellist Pablo Casales, usually holds a huge classical music festival in August. Travel Information
