Chambres d'Hôtes Bed and Breakfast in the centre of Antibes
Close to the beaches on the Côte d'Azur, South of France
A double suite with private bathroom

La Villa Maghoss

Antibes is right on the Mediterranean coast across the bay from Nice, and a town that is full of life with one of the most colourful markets on the coast. Our villa is quietly situated in the heart of Antibes, close to local beaches and the beautiful, long sandy beach at Juan-les-Pins. The pleasures of Cannes and Nice are 8 kms and 18 kms away.

A mass of bougainvilleas and pelargoniums, begonias, laurals, roses and plumbago cover the house and garden. Breakfast is copious and includes home made jams and a variety of freshly baked bread including fougasse, a delicious flat loaf, traditionally cooked in a wood burning oven, sometimes flavoured with olives or anchovies, served on the terrace shaded by a vine.

The suite is on the ground floor of the villa with its own entrance. It opens into a sitting room furnished with old walnut and cherry wood furniture, table and chairs, a sideboard and, a piano. Engravings, pastels and lithographs decorate the walls and there is television and a small fridge. The tiled bathroom has a shower, wc and washbasin and dressing gowns are provided. An extra bed can also be provided on request.

The bedroom has a double bed and an armoire and is decorated with provençal fabrics and watercolours of the Provence countryside. The floors are covered with Salernes tiles. A washing machine and ironing facilities are available on request. There is also private parking.

The black and white grapes on the vine covering the terrace are usually out at the end of August, so all you have to do is reach up and pick them. The garden is surrounded by cypress trees and there are sunbeds and parasols.

The Area

We are great walkers and know the countryside around Antibes well and would be happy take you on walks to places we have discovered. Within a range of about 10 kms is a 5-hole golf course, tennis courts, riding stables and a race course. Marineland just outside Antibes is one of the best in Europe and something both children and adults can enjoy. There is also a very good sailing centre and a regatta usually at the end of May, beginning of June.

The food and flower markets in the Cours Masséna are on Wednesdays and Saturdays with a flea market and crafts stalls added on Saturdays. The restaurants here and in Juan-les-Pins range from gastronomic to family run bistros and embody some of the best of provençal Mediterranean cooking. La Terrasse (2 Michelin stars) is worth at least one visit.

The annual Jazz Festival is usually in the last two week of July and has been attracting such musicians as Charles Mingus, Miles Davis, Ray Charles, Louis Armstrong, Mahalia Jackson and the great Ella Fitzgerald amongst others, for the past forty years and is known in the jazz world as the venue where the best musicians are 'ordained'.

The Picasso Museum is in the château on the hill in the old part of Antibes. A prodigious collection of work donated by Picasso in gratitude for the studio that was set up for him by the curator at the time. The Maeght Museum at Saint Paul de Vence has a superb collection of contemporary art. Other villages a short drive out of Antibes are Biot, famous for making glass, Vallauris, which makes pottery and Tourettes-sur-Loup, which makes furniture and objects out of olive wood.
