La Ferme Blanche
Our house dates from the 18th century and its character is typical of the southern Touraine area of the Loire. Surrounded by a lovely garden in peaceful countryside, La Ferme Blanche has a pleasant, friendly feeling about it. Antiques that we have collected over the years and family furniture harmonise with the character of the house and an attention to detail, provide a comfortable base.
Cussay has a boulangerie, a café, tennis courts and a restaurant called the Pont Neuf that has an excellent reputation for its food and attractive surroundings. In August, the village holds an annual 'fête du pain' along with a country antiques fair, when the bread is cooked in a special bread oven then shared with everyone. Ligueil is 3 kms away and has a choice of shops and facilities. Many of the most beautiful of the Loire châteaux are less than an hour's drive. Tours is 40 minutes from here. Each of the rooms has its own intimate style and charm. The beds made are made up with fine linen or embroidered cotton sheets and they are all south facing with views over the swimming pool.
La Suite Jardin comprises two communicating double rooms, both with a private entrance, separated by an Italian bathroom with shower and a small dressing room. La Suite has two double rooms, a small sitting room and a bathroom with bath. The suite has a private entrance and overlooks the countryside. An extra bed is available on request. Le four à pan is a romatic double room with an Italian bathroom with a shower, a fireplace in the small salon and a private entrance. Dinner is available on request. Sample Menu Tatin au Sainte-Maure-de-Touraine Chinese roast Nougat ice-cream There is also a main salon with local and regional information. The pool is terraced and equipped with sun loungers and sun bathing mats. The garden is lovely to relax in on warm summer evenings and bicycles are available on request. We also have badminton, volleyball and a pétanque pitch and there is a private parking area. The Area
Loches lies beside the Indre river and has charming pavement cafes and a marvellous market on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The walled medieval town clustered around the château, sits on the hill above the main town and has some fine Renaissance houses, is full of history and makes a pleasant walk - highly recommended after lunch at Le George Sand on the terrace overlooking the river. The Touraine borders on Anjou and produces some of the Loire's best red wine, as well as rosé and a fine sparkling white wine, as good as any champagne. You can either visit some of the vineyards to taste or visit the caves in Tours or Chinon. Tours also has very good shopping and an attractive old quarter with small restaurants that stay open at all hours. The 10th century château at Montrésor has been beautifully restored and furnished by the present owners. Beyond Montrésor, the château at Valençay is a magnificent example of classical Renaissance with great domed round towers and luxurious, mainly Louis XVI and Empire, furnishings. The park and gardens here are particularly beautiful and full of peacocks, black swans and deer. Within an hour or so are some of the most beautiful of the Loire châteaux; Azay-le-Rideau (the town also has some interesting shops), Chinon and Chenonceaux, perhaps the greatest of them all, which never fails to amaze. The château is still privately owned and has beautiful formal gardens laid out by Catherine de Medici. Travel Information
