Beautiful Traditional Mas in the Provence Gard
Tresques, near Uzès, between Orange and Avignon
Two separate gites: 3 bedrooms each, sleeping 6 people

Le Mas Teissier

Our house dates from 1770, typical of the architecture of the time, mellowed by time and a hot sun, loved by all those who have lived here. It lies just outside the village of Tresques in the Gard, between Languedoc Roussillon and Provence, so you have the best of all world's at your feet. The old Duchy of Uzès is 15 kms from here, Orange and Avignon are both 25 kms away. An hour to the North takes you into the Cévennes and a totally different landscape, an hour to the South is the Camargue and beaches on the Mediterranean coast.

The rambling nature of the mas means that each of the gites are independent and private.

Les Lavandes has a living room and dining room with television and a fireplace for the winter months. The kitchen is equipped with everything necessary, including a dishwasher and washing machine, microwave, a cooker and a fridge.

Of the three bedrooms, two have double beds, one has twin beds. There is also a bathroom, a shower room and a separate wc.

Stone steps lead up to the entrance of Les Lauriers, tucked away in another part of the house. It has an open plan living room with a dining table, television and a kitchen area also equipped with a dishwasher and washing machine, microwave, an oven and hob and a fridge.

There are two double bedroom and a twin room, plus a bathroom, a shower room and a separate wc.

The outside terrace gets the morning sun and is a pleasant place for breakfast. There is also a private garden, which is lovely at other times for meals or for a quiet siesta.

The pool is large with a shallow pool area for children, surrounded by stone terracing and grassy areas, and fenced to protect younger children. There are also three hectares of garden that merges into the countryside, to roam around and enjoy.

The Area

There are endless places to walk and cycle, the village has tennis courts and there are golf courses in Uzès, Avignon and Nîmes. We will be happy to help you with anything you want to know about the area, which would be fun for both adults and children. We can also recommend a variety of restaurants and suggest several places where you can sample and buy local Côtes du Rhône wines.

Bagnols-sur Cèze is where the River Cèze meet the Rhône, an ancient Roman spa and a great centre for Côtes du Rhône wine. The old town has changed little and every now and then, while wandering around the narrow streets, you will see its whimsical emblem depicting three golden pots. Place Mallet is the pretty central square and you can find most things in shops around the town. Market day is Wednesday.

The painter Albert André, a friend of Renoir's, became the curator of the Art Museum in Bagnol and was responsible for building France's first collection of contemporary paintings. Sadly, they were lost when the building was accidentally set alight by the local firemen during their annual ball! André sent out a distress message to France's artists to help fill the blank walls and was rewarded by contributions from Matisse, Bonnard, Gauguin, Renoir and Picasso amongst others, which you can see today.

The countryside between Tresques and Uzès is dotted with attractive villages, fields of asparagus, vines, cherry orchards and forests of truffle oaks, alternating with garrigues. Uzés has little truck with modern life and its timeless charm attracts many who like its relaxed atmosphere and lovely streets. Café life takes up most available space in and around Place Albert 1er, where friends meet to eat and exchange news. The delightful Place aux Herbes, lined with ancient plane trees, has for centuries been the centre of public life in Uzès. Market day is Wednesday with a massive one on Saturday where you can get anything from organic lettuce to clothes. From December to March there is also a truffle market.
