Two Château Cottages in the Mayenne
Fougerolles-du-Plessis, on the Brittany Normandy border, West France
The château is situated in the Pays de la Loire in the lovely Mayenne countryside
Chateau de Goué
The château is situated in the extreme north of the Pays de la Loire in the lovely Mayenne countryside bordering on Brittany and Normandy, an hour from St Malo and beaches along the coast. Hidden in a pastoral park with a private fishing lake, the cottages are in a 17th century building beside the house and are designed to give our guests peace and privacy. The château is an historical monument, full of history, family furniture and beautifully painted salons. We will be delighted to show you around and tell its story and to help you with anything you need to know about the area.
The cottages are in a building known as the Sergenterie, which has been divided into two separate parts called La Sergenterie Bleue and La Sergenterie Jaune. Each one has been decorated with care, furnished with antique country furniture and has comfortable beds and a sofa bed if needed. They can also be taken together by friends or family if required, communicating via a room in the basement.
La Sergenterie Bleue has a large open plan main room with a corner kitchen, a salon area with a fireplace and a table with benches that seats six to eight people. The entrance is direct from the main courtyard. Upstairs is a double bedroom and a twin bedroom, which share a bathroom with shower and a separate wc. La Sergenterie Jaune has a living room with a round dining table for six and a fully equipped kitchen. Upstairs are two double bedrooms with bathrooms, one with a shower, the other with a bath. A communicating basement room between the two acts as a storage room for fishing equipment, bicycles and barbecues. Both cottages have central heating for the winter months, television and video and each kitchen is equipped with a cooker, dishwasher, microwave and fridge, coffee maker and toaster. La Sergenterie Jaune also has a washing machine. Below the cottages are terraced lawns and a small pond, garden furniture and a barbecue and there are lovely walks through the avenues in the park. Please bring your own fishing equipment. The Area
An 8 km circular rambling route passes along the edge of the property. Other routes begin in or near the village and take you through unspoiled countryside and surrounding villages. You can hire bicycles in Fougerolles-du-Plessis and there are swimming pools in Gorron, Fougères and St Hilaire du Harcouêt. Gorron has a fun golf practice park for beginners, Laval (30 kms) has a good 18-hole golf course. There are a choice of restaurants within easy reach, ranging from family run bistros to gastronomic. Market days in St Hilaire and Gorron are on Wednesday mornings. The great feudal castle in Fougères is the largest in Europe and bore witness to series of power struggles throughout the Middle Ages. The town is well laid out and pleasant to walk around and the area around the Bourg Neuf is the place to shop. The Place aux Arbres gardens meander towards the château and on to the old town. The jardin des Renaudies at Colombiers du Plessis are well worth a visit. Travel Information
