Beautiful Provence House with pool
Cavaillon, between Gordes and Saint Rémy de Provence
3 bedrooms, sleeps up to 7 people
La Colline
The house is high on the Saint Jacques hill above Cavaillon, overlooking the Durance river and surrounded by pine trees. Cavaillon, 4 kms from here, famous for its Monday morning market, has a good range shops and facilities and you can get to it via a pleasant route through the pines, or via stone steps leading down the hillside into the town. Just by the 12th century chapel is a map of the town and marvellous views across the Durance valley towards the Luberon. Saint Remy de Provence and the lovely village of Gordes in the Luberon are both 20 minutes from here. Avignon, Orange, Vaison la Romaine and Aix en Provence are all within reasonable driving distance.
The house has large shady and sunny terraces and is set in a lovely garden of roses, lavender and laural, full of the distinctive scents of Provence and the song of the cigales. The three bedrooms open directly onto the pool. Two are double rooms, the third is a children's room with bunk beds and a single bed. A cot and highchair are available. One of the double rooms has an en suite bathroom with a large shower and double washbasins. There is also a second shower room and wc.
The large sitting room and dining room is very comfortably furnished and has a bar, satellite television and a hi-fi. The kitchen is well equipped with everything necessary including a traditional oven and hob, microwave, dishwasher, fridge, freezer and various appliances. The laundry room has a washing machine and dryer and storage cupboards. The pool is terraced and has underwater lighting and a safety alarm. There is parking room for three cars in front of the house.
The Area
There are several golf courses within a range of 10 to 20 kms, the Camargue and the beaches at Saintes Marie de la Mer are 45 minutes from the house. The Luberon, the Alpilles hills and the beautiful Vaucluse mountains are all within easy reach. Gordes, perched high on a hilltop, is one of the most striking of the villages in the Luberon. Fontaine de Vaucluse is another, so called because the underground source of the little Sorge river bursts through a dramatic hole in the cliff, forming an intensely green lake under the cliff. The river is one of the best trout streams in France. Ile-sur-la-Sorgue is a charming town that makes fabrics and carpets, but is best known as the antiques centre of Provence with a number of antique shops on the southern edge of the town around the Avenue des Quatre Otages and a huge antiques village open on Sundays. Pernes-les-Fontaines, Ile-sur-la-Sorgue's tiny neighbour has scores of fountains built in the 18th century. Shy and uninterested in the world, Pernes is a delight, a village made for walking around.
