Hautepierre
Hautepierre is a house dating from the 18th century in the medieval village of Valbonne, 10 kms from the beaches of Cannes and Antibes. The house is typical of this part of Provence with a yellow ochre facade, situated right in the heart of Valbonne, close to the life of the village amongst the artist community, near the market place and the arcaded square, where there is usually a game of boules going on and a cafe terrace to pass the time of day in. Valbonne is 20 minutes from Nice and all it has to offer and from there it is an easy drive to Monaco and Menton on the Italian border.
The Esterel hills stretch along the coast as far as Saint Tropez, punctuated by little fishing ports and some of the finest beaches to be found anywhere. In the hills behind are ancient villages perched high above a gorge or hidden in a valley and terraced hills covered by pine trees, olive groves or vines, the air filled with the scent of wild lavender, thyme and rosemary. The climate here makes it a favourite place all year round and there are several golf courses within an easy drive and excellent shops, restaurants and general facilities. The house is full of the charm of Provence, decorated in warm colours, a family home that is welcoming and friendly. It has been restored in the traditional way in keeping with the style and period and furnished with a mix of country and modern furniture with lovely old rugs.
There is an entrance hall that leads to an open plan main room with a dining area and a sitting room area with a large angle sofa and chairs, lighting to suit the mood, lithographs by Weissbuch, Brayer and Zarou, television, DVD and a hi-fi system. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything necessary and includes a dishwasher, oven and hob, microwave, a fridge/freezer, washing machine and dryer. There is also a teapot and kettle, a coffee maker, ironing facilities, a hairdryer and a highchair if needed. The double bedroom has cupboards, a small writing desk and an armchair. A cot can be provided on request. The twin bedroom has a dressing room and both rooms have en suite shower rooms. The whole house has full central heating and there is a garage a step away. There are a number of restaurants in little streets around Valbonne to suit most tastes and pockets and others within a short drive that include several well known gastronomic restaurants such as the Chèvre d'Or, the Moulin de Mougins, the Bastide Saint Antoine, the Oasis, the Terrace and Chez Bacon. The Area
This is a golfers paradise with no less than eleven 18-hole golf clubs to choose from within 20 minutes and there are a dozen riding stables that cater for all levels of experience and can arrange treks through the hills. The beautiful Mercantour National Park and Merveilles Valley or the Gorges de Verdun are a paradise for walkers and cyclists. Antibes and Cannes both have excellent water sports facilities and fabulous shops! Grasse has long been the centre of the perfume industry and is famous for its fields of roses, jasmine and lavender, at their best in July, which are harvested and distilled to make the scents and essences. On the other side of Grasse is St Paul de Vence, a walled medieval village perched on a hill, where the painter Marc Chagall lived. Today it is still a favourite with artists and has numerous restaurants and cafes. The Maeght Foundation on the edge of the town has many works by the 20th century Impressionist painters. Just beyond St Paul is Vence, another lovely medieval town, which has a relatively modern chapel with frescoes by Henri Matisse. Travel Information
