Spacious Beach Villa in the Charente Maritime
Nauzan, near Royan, on the Atlantic Coast
5 bedrooms, sleeps up to 12 people
Pointe Sèche
Our villa is right on the beach at Nauzan. Surrounded by a garden amongst pine trees, which gives it privacy, the house has direct access to the beach and wonderful panoramic views of the sea from a terrace stretching along the whole of the front. Children have a swing, a slide and table tennis in the garden and there are organised children's clubs on the beach, where they can spend the morning or afternoon with lots to keep them amused. The beach is perfect for windsurfing. Royan is 7 km from here, La Rochelle is under an hour.
The villa is architect designed and furnished in a style that combines both traditional and modern. The living room and dining area, kitchen, three double bedrooms and a bathroom, are on the first floor and open onto a terrace that run along the length of the house. The living room has a corner study area and is very comfortably furnished with leather sofas and chairs, pieces of sculpture, television, DVD and a music system. The dining room has a fireplace and the kitchen is fully equipped. In total, there are two fridges, two freezers, an oven and hob, microwave, dishwasher and a washing machine.
The ground floor has two further bedrooms with wash basins and a shower room and wc. There is also a garden kitchenette, a parking area and a garage. Altogether, the villa has four double bedrooms and one bedroom with two sets of bunk beds. Vaux-sur-Mer, Talmont and Royan have a choice of restaurants to suit most tastes with reasonably priced menus and there are numerous others along the coast and further inland. The Area
There are all kinds of water sports facilities within easy diving distance, ranging from sailing, surfing and jet skiing, to fishing. Tennis courts, a golf course and riding stables are within 3 km and flights over the area can be arranged from the airfield at Royan. The golf course at Royan has excellent club house facilities and a fairly challenging course. It is advisable to book, especially in summer. The beaches at St Georges de Didonne and Royan are both excellent spots for windsurfing. Saint Georges de Didonne is 5 minutes from Royan, a vast, open beach adorned with dunes and pine trees, good for picnic's and ideal for children. Royan has an attractive shopping area, lots of good fish restaurants (this is oyster and mussel country), creperies and brasseries and an indoor market open every weekday morning. A ferry service operates across to the Médoc and the Côtes de Blaye and Côtes de Bourg vineyards. Other boat trips are also available. Some of the pretty little villages along the coast, like Mornac, l'Eguille and Mortagne, are worth visiting. Mornac is especially lovely, a place for walking that changes with the light at different times of day and in different seasons. The 14th century market place is a good place to start from. La Bonne Tarte, on the left as you walk down la rue du Port, is famous for its plum tarts and beyond, is a restaurant in the old mill with a pleasant terrace, which has a varied menu and a warm welcome. Famous for its Romanesque church, which stands on the cliff overlooking the bay, Talmont is a delight. In summer, there are hollyhocks everywhere, covering the tiny, white painted cottages in a warren of narrow streets. La Phare de Cordouan is a huge, white lighthouse, one of the first to be built, which stands at the mouth of the Gironde between Royan and Vaux-sur-Mer. Built on a rock in the sea that is only visible at low tide, it also acted as a royal residence during the reign Louis XIV and Louis XVI and as a church. In 1862, it was the first to be classified as an Historical Monument, along with Notre Dame in Paris. Travel Information
