Le Logis des Bessons
Bessons lies at the heart of our vineyard, which has been in our family now since 1850 and we will be delighted to show you around it and also take you through the aromatic garden. We also have a small museum devoted to the distillation and making of cognac that has many of the original tools used by the family over the years and there will certainly be an opportunity to taste both the cognac we make here and the pineau. We raise animals too; donkeys, goats, sheep and peacocks! There is also a small lake with private fishing. Migron is 20 kms from Cognac and 25 kms from Saintes.
All the Bed and Breakfast rooms are big, sunny and furnished with traditional Charentaise furniture and each has a private bathroom with either a shower or a bath. Of the five bedrooms in total, there are three double bedrooms, one very prettily decorated with a canopy. Then there is the Louis XV bedroom, which has two large twin beds and is very comfortable. Finally there is the family room, which sleeps three plus a small child of up to six years. There a dining room/salon with television also furnished with old family furniture and a small kitchenette with a fridge and microwave for those who want to make the occasional snack. We have table tennis and various children's games, the garden has outside furniture and there is a pool and a barbecue.
For those who prefer to be private and independent, we have three gites. Gite 1 is at the back of the main house and has a terrace leading into the garden on one side and overlooks the pool on the other. It has lots of charm and is furnished with old country furniture. The kitchen area is fully equipped with a fridge, microwave, dishwasher and washing machine and is separated from the living room/dining room by a breakfast bar. The salon area has a double sofa bed if needed and television. The bedroom is cosy and romantic. Ideal for two, it sleeps four people. Gite 2 is larger and has a kitchen equipped with dishwasher and washing machine, microwave, oven and hob and a fridge, amongst other things. The ground floor has a living room with a dining area, two double bedrooms each with an extra single bed and a bathroom with bath and separate wc. Upstairs are two further bedrooms, one with a double bed and twin beds, the other with two double beds and twin beds. There is also a bathroom with shower and separate wc. The gite can sleep up to 10 adults and 2 children. In front of the gite is a small private garden with garden furniture and a barbecue. Gite 3 is spacious and situated just outside the entrance to the main house, next to the small lake, between fields of vines and sunflowers. The ground floor has a living room with a dining area and fireplace, a new fully equipped kitchen, which includes a dishwasher and washing machine, fridge, oven and hob and a large double bedroom that also has a single bed and a luxurious bathroom with a separate wc. Stairs lead up to a mezzanine and a corner salon area with a sofa bed and two other bedrooms. The first is a twin room, the second a double room with a large charentaise bed. An extra bed for a child can be added on request. These two rooms share a bathroom. The cottage sleeps 6/8 in comfort. There is a small fenced garden in front of the cottage with garden furniture and a barbeque and the children's play area, pool and table tennis and the farm animals are all at hand.
The Area
Migron, 2 kms has tennis courts open everyone and there are two good golf courses, one at Cognac, the other at Saintes. There are riding stables that cater for all levels of expertise at Fontcouverte near Saintes, and another at Chenes Richemont, 10 kms from here towards Cognac. In less than an hour you can be on the beaches at Royan, which has some fine shops and restaurants overlooking the main beach and harbour. There is also a marvellous daily market and lots of water sports facilities. The Ile d'Oléron, linked by a bridge from Marennes, makes a wonderful day out and takes you into another world. Well known for its oyster beds, the island has enormous unspoiled charm and splendid beaches. The Ile de Ré is another island near La Rochelle, scattered with whitewashed houses covered in roses with sandy beaches and hidden coves around the coast. The little roads that criss-cross the island have been designed specifically with cyclists in mind. Saintes has a good choice of shops and restaurants and is pleasant to walk around with wide boulevards and a lovely old part of town with medieval and 17th/18th century buildings. Ronce-les-Bains hidden in the middle of the pine forest has much charm and is worth a detour. Travel Information
