Chambres d'Hotes Bed and Breakfast in the Loire Valley
Cour Cheverny, near Blois in Central France. With private fishing
5 double rooms with bathrooms and 2 family suites
Le Béguinage
Cour Cheverny is a village on the edge of the Cheverny Forest that has a splendidly classical château built in 1604 as a hunting lodge by the same architects responsible for Chambord and Blois. Still privately owned but open to the public, its sumptuous interior is graced with paintings by the likes of Titian and Raphael. It also has a hunting museum complete with hounds. We are close to Chambord and Azay-le-Rideau, 12 kms from Blois and 45 kms from Tours. Paris is 170 kms.
Cours Cheverny has several restaurants, a bank and a number of shops within walking distance. Our 18th century house is very typical of the village with mature gardens bordered by a river and a small private lake stocked with fish. We have five double or twin bedrooms, four of which have en suite shower rooms, two of which have bathrooms with bath. The two suites have a double and two single beds, suitable for a family or group of friends. One of the suites has a kitchenette for children's meals or light snacks. Television can be provided on request. On fine days, breakfast is served on the terrace.
All the rooms have lovely views over the garden. On long summer evenings, after a good lunch, a game of golf, or a visit to one of the châteaux, you can relax by the lake and do a little fishing. The Area
The Cheverny Golf Club and the nearest riding stables are less than 2 kms from the house. This is also ideal cycling country and a great way to explore. Some of the country roads corkscrew through forests and lead to some of the best châteaux. Pick up some things in the village for a picnic and take lunch with you to the great forest that surrounds the Renaissance château of Chambord. Nothing prepares you for its sheer size and extravagant architecture. Blois is a food lover's town with fresh breads, asparagus and game found in the market place, which sprawles over the cobbled alleyways of the town's old quarter on Saturday mornings. Begun in the 13th century, the château there was built in successive stages over a period of six hundred years. Azay-le-Rideau is a perennial favourite for its graceful elegance and beautiful setting amongst trees at the edge of a small village, moated by the Indre river. Chaumont and Villandry are as famous for their gardens as for their château. Travel Information
