Le Château de Servigny
Chateau de Servigny has a magnificent park of 14 acres and the interior of the Chateau is elegantly furnished with period antique furniture. The Chateau witnessed the signing of the Treaty of Cherbourg between U.S. General Lawton Collins and German General Von Schlieben on June 26th 1944.
Located between Cherbourg and Bayeux, this 16th century Chateau in Normandy is an ideal base to explore Bayeux the D-Day landing beaches of Omaha beach and Utah beach, Ste Mere Eglise, the Bayeux Tapestry and Le Mont Saint Michel. Golf holidays in Normandy are increasingly popular and there is a lynx course at Fontenay nearby and a superb parkland course at Omaha Beach Golf Club Bayeux. The Chateau has all the modern comforts you could wish for. The marble floors of the grand entrance hall lead to the salons on the first floor, then to the bedrooms on the second floor. The ground floor has an armour room, which is now used as a billiard room with a pool table. The dining room has a huge Renaissance fireplace and a dining table that can seat twenty people. The kitchen is completely equipped and has a variety of appliances, including two ovens and a five plate hob, a large fridge with a freezer compartment and a wine fridge. The laundry room has a washing machine and dryer.
The first floor has a small Louis XVI sitting room overlooking the park and a large Louis XVI salon where the ancient title deeds to Servigny are displayed and which has a large table for celebrations, reunions or seminars. There is also a music and games room, a library, all furnished in the same period, and a large bedroom with a bathroom and views on three sides. The second floor has seven bedrooms, two twin rooms, two with a double and single bed, two single bedrooms (one with a small double bed) and the last is a double bedroom with a single bed, all have en-suite bathrooms. There is a fax on the first floor and telephones on the first and second floor. The library has satellite television and DVD, as well as video and a hi-fi. Two of the bedrooms have a small television and there is Broadband internet access throughout the château. Children can run about freely in the park and there are various games like table tennis and table football to have fun with. Others may like to explore the chapel, the temple to Neptune and the herb garden. The 12 x 6 metre heated swimming pool is set in its own garden, surrounded by stone walls and functions between May and September. We also have ten mountain bikes, two suitable for older children. We keep an apartment in one wing of the chateau, which we visit occasionally and which has its own private entrance, so as not to disturb anyone. The Area
The closest beaches are at Quinéville or Carteret, 17 kms and 20 kms from here and there are 9-hole, 18-hole and 27-hole golf courses at about the same distance. The Contentin coast and countryside is strikingly beautiful, an intricate network of hedgerows dotted with churches, where there are endless places to walk and cycle. The Abbaye de Lessay has been restored to its full beauty, bright, simple and harmoniously Romanesque. The Abbaye de Lucerne, complete with rooks, lies in the delightfully secluded Sienne valley. We recommend two restaurants in the village, a short walk from the château; The Moulin de la Haulle, a creperie in an ancient mill, and La Forge d'Yvetôt, a creperie grill in the old forge in the village. Valognes, also known as Little Versailles, has two particularly fine 18th century buildings and a cider museum. The market is every Friday morning. Bricquebec, 10 minutes from Servigny, has a market on Monday morning and also has a 12th century fortified castle with a very good restaurant at the foot. Within 20 minutes are four very different areas and cultures. La Hague in the Northwest is a land of granite buildings and botanical gardens, much loved by the painters Millet and Prévert. The Val-de-Saire to the Northeast has attractive fishing ports like Barfleur and Saint-Vaast la Hougue. The Normandy Landings Beaches are to the Southeast; Sainte Mère l'Eglise and Utah Beach with their museums and memorials. To the South is unspoilt countryside, beautiful in Spring and full of wildlife. Travel Information
