Comfortable Cottage in the Loire Valley
Mouzay, near Loches, in the Indre et Loire of Central France
2 bedrooms, sleeps up to 4 people
Sainte Anne
Mouzay is a small village, close to the medieval town of Loches, within reach of many of the Loire châteaux and the vineyards, which produce some of the country's most famous wines. Set in a pretty garden, Sainte Anne dates from 1850 and is typical of the style of that period. We have restored it carefully to provide every comfort and to keep as much of its original charm as possible. The cottage is independent of the main house and has a pleasant, peaceful atmosphere about it.
The village has a pizzeria and daily bread deliveries, handy for fresh bread and croissants for breakfast. Loches and Ligueil are both ten kilometres from here and have shops, weekly markets and some good restaurants. There is an excellent restaurant in the village of Genillé called the Agnès Sorel, whose chef has been acknowledged as one of the best in France. Tours, Amboise and the great Château de Chenonceau are roughly 40 minutes away. Loches has a golf course and there is an excellent 18-hole golf course in Tours. We have paid particular attention to the interior decoration and details to make the cottage as comfortable and welcoming as possible.
The kitchen has a decorative, stone fireplace and is well equipped with dishwasher and washing machine, oven and hob, fridge and microwave and enough of everything for eight people. The main room has two sofas, satellite television and DVD, internet connection, a dining table and a hatch through to the kitchen. There is also a downstairs wc. Upstairs are two bedrooms, one with a double bed, the other with twin beds that can also be made into a double bed, both with en suite bathrooms with shower. All the bedding is new and a cot, highchair and baby bath can be provided on request. The gite has its own little private garden with garden furniture, sunbeds and a barbecue, plus parking space in the courtyard. The village has a children's play area, a football pitch and a lake stocked with fish. There is also a covered swimming pool, 2 kms away, open all year round.
The Area
Loches has its own château in the lovely old town on the hill above the river. An hour away is Chambord, a massive palace with 440 rooms and almost as many chimneys and Blois, a favourite of Louis XII. Chenonceau is an architectural marvel, built across the River Cher and Amboise is one of the oldest and most beautiful of the royal residences. Gardeners will not only take pleasure in the lovely, classical gardens at Valençay, but in those at Chaumont-sur-Loire. The château, built between 1465 and 1510, stands above the Loire river and has fine views of the valley from the terrace. The stables alone are worth visiting to see the luxury in which horses were kept in those days. The International Festival of Parks and Gardens is held at Chaumont between June and October and tours of other gardens can also be arranged from there. Children love the open-air Beauval animal park at Saint Aignan, well known for the care and quality of life the animals receive. Futuroscope, the huge science and technology park near Poitiers is about an hour from here. Travel Information
