Country Bed and Breakfast in Normandy
Hambye, near Percy, between St Lô, Granville and Avranches
Double and Family rooms with en suite shower rooms
La Beauficerie
Our farmhouse is 2km from the village of Hambye, 5 km from Percy, about an hour from both St Malo and Caen, 30 minutes from St Lô, Vire, Granville and the beaches and Avranches in the south. We are at the end of a quiet lane with no traffic, surrounded by apple orchards and countryside, so children can play freely and safely.
We have a double and a twin room with shower and two family rooms with en suite shower rooms that are ideal for single occupation, couples, friends or families. All the rooms overlook the apple orchard. There is also a kitchen/dining room where breakfast is served and a comfortable lounge/ television room to relax in. Dinner is available on request and a choice of bars, restaurants and cafés can be found in Percy or Villedieu, a 10 minute drive from here.
The Double Room has an en suite shower, washbasin and wc, a double bed with bedside tables and reading lamps, chairs and a wardrobe. Our Twin Bedroom is on the ground floor at the rear of the property and contains 2 single beds, wardrobe and bedside cabinets. With ensuite shower and toilet. The Family Rooms both have double beds and bunk beds, bedside tables wardrobes and en suite shower rooms. One of the family rooms has a sitting area with a sofa. There is plenty of parking space, garden furniture for long summer evenings and storage for cyclists.
The Area
Apart from the beach and all the water sports facilities in Granville, there are tennis courts, a 27-hole golf course, gliding facilities and microlite flights around Mont Saint Michel from the airfield at Granville. Inland are numerous rambling routes including the GR223, stables that can arrange treks, cycling routes, Go-Karting and fresh water fishing. Some of the Normandy Landing Beaches, Omaha and Utah, are little more than an hour's drive. The beaches along the coast from Granville down to Mont St Michel are truly wonderful. Large busy ones with beach guards, beach huts and refreshments and small secluded isolated ones, all with sandy beaches. There is a coastal path extending for many kilometres offering magnificent views. The Bay of Mont St Michel (45 minutes) and the fishing village of Cancale just beyond is famous for oysters and mussels and there are superb seafood restaurants all along the coast. The Abbaye de Hambye is about 2 km from La Beauficerie, approached through a gateway thick with irises in Spring, the ruins glowing with golden lichen. On weekend summer evenings, flaming torches dramatically illuminate the scene and piped Gregorian chants float in the warm air. Villedieu-les-Poêles (10 minutes) has been making copper pans, urns and church and ships bells since the 12th century and the main street is lined with shops selling various pieces. You can also visit the unique workshop in the foundry there, to see demonstrations of copper making. Villedieu itself is a lovely old town with quiet inner courtyards like the Cour des Trois Rois and the Cour aux Lys and the Tuesday market is well worth a visit. Travel Information
