Two Farmhouse Gites with pool in Poitou-Charentes
Limalonges, between Poitiers and Angloulême, in the Deux-Sèvres
3 or 4 bedrooms, sleeping 6/8 people. Together: 7 bedrooms, sleeping 16 people.
Chatenet
Our farm is made up of pretty stone buildings, which have been beautifully restored into two houses that can be rented separately or together. Both gites have their own private terrace and barbecue overlooking the pool and orchard, all mod cons, en suite bedrooms and large main living rooms with lounge and kitchen areas. The 12 x 6 metres saltwater pool has a depth of 1.5 metres throughout and is fenced with a childproof locking gate. There are three acres of parkland to enjoy where children can run around and let off steam.
We are only 1.5 km from the town of Sauze-Vaussais, which offers a wide range of shops, supermarkets, cafes, restaurants and has two weekly markets (an easy walk or a 2 minute drive). Ruffec is another small town 15 minutes from the house and has more shops and restaurants. Poitiers and Angloulême are both about an hour from here, La Rochelle and the beaches are 90 minutes. Golf, riding, cycling and walking and lakes with watersports are all within reasonable distance. The possibilities are endless.
Gite 1 has 4 bedrooms, three doubles rooms with bathrooms and one twin room with a splashroom and toilet. The cottage has two separate staircases leading to two bedrooms and a bathroom on either side; perfect for two families sharing. Downstairs is a large lounge with a corner settee and sofa bed, television and DVDs (of which we have lots), a CD player and plenty of books and games. The kitchen area is lovely with an American style fridge with ice and cold water on tap, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave and a large cooker with five rings. Also an extending oak dining table that can seat up to twelve. The front of the gite has shady outside seating and a stone built barbecue. The back of the house has doors opening onto a private terrace with table and chairs overlooking the pool. Gite 2 also has 3 bedrooms, two double rooms with bathrooms and one ensuite triple room with 3 single beds. Downstairs is an open plan living room with a lounge area that has a comfortable three piece suite, a large 42 inch flat screen television, books and games. The kitchen area is fully equipped and includes a dishwasher and washing machine, coffee maker, kettle and toaster. The back of the gite has a sunroom dining area, which leads onto a private terrace that overlooks the pool with a barbecue and an outside table and chairs. The gites can be taken together for a large family or group of friends. Hairdryers are provided. Gite 2 can also be taken on a Bed and Breakfast basis with dinner available on request. The pool is yours to enjoy and we have walnut, hazelnut, plums, apricots, figs, peaches, apples and cherry trees in the orchard. Please help yourself !
The Area
The area offers a wide range of sporting and leisure activities: Rambling, birdwatching and cycling, riding stables (10 minutes), fishing and swimming or kayaking and boating. The countryside has undulating golden fields of sunflowers and maize, picturesque villages and wonderful market towns, walks and rivers. Ruffec is a market town where traders and farmers display their wares every Wednesday and Saturday morning. A lively fair is also held twice a month. Away from the main square and the bars and boutiques, you can easily explore the old town and enjoy watching the passage of the River Charente as it makes its way from Taizé-Aizie to Marsac. During the war, the town was a Resistance stronghold. The Hotel Toque-Blanche was where 'The Cockleshell Heroes' escaped to, following their mission in Bordeaux. Angoulême is known as the gateway to the Southwest and has numerous craft shops, antique shops and boutiques. The town is magnificently lit up almost every night and hosts a wide range of lively cultural events. Among them, is an annual International Cartoon Festival, attracting over 200,000 cartoon enthusiasts every year. Every September it also holds the Circuit des Remparts, the only vintage car rally outside Monaco held inside a town, which attracts entrants from all over Europe. Niort is another lovely place to visit. Walk along the main street, which has two giant dragons on either side, towards the cathedral and you will find some good bars and restaurants with terraces for al-fresco eating (try the Irish bar, not very French, but the food is spot on). La Rochelle, on the coast about 90 minutes away, has a huge array of seafood restaurants alongside the harbour front and several sandy beaches. Just north of Poitiers is Futuroscope, the largest science and technology park in Europe and a great day out. Travel Information
