Two Apartments in the Savoie Rhone Alps
Valloire, between Chambéry, Lyon and Geneva
1 bedroom, sleeps up to 5 people. 3 bedrooms, sleeps 8 people.
The Apartments
Snuggled around the church, in a hollow between the Télégraphe and the Galibier peaks, Valloire was the first and still is the largest ski station in the Alps, about 80 km from Chambéry. The valley is vast and always magical. Every winter sport is catered for. The snow is best between December and April. Summer brings a different landscape and the valley becomes another playground with sports such as swimming, cycling, golf and tennis, climbing and walking. The nearest airports are Lyon or Geneva, roughly two hours from Valloire.
The village is the most southerly in the Alps and most years in the summer, the Tour de France cycle race passes through. The people here are kind and hospitable in the traditional mountain way and the village has excellent facilities, a range of shops and a choice of restaurants. Both the apartments are in the centre of the village, close to the ski-lifts, shops and restaurants, children’s day nurseries and ski clubs, and have fine views of the mountains. They each have a ski storage area, television, a hi-fi and various games.
Apartment 1 has been designed in a modern style with pine and wrought iron furniture in keeping with the Savoie tradition. It has one double divan bed in the living room, a bedroom with three single beds and a bathroom with a separate wc. The kitchen is fully equipped with a microwave and oven, a fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washing machine and dryer. There is an outside terrace with garden furniture and the apartment sleeps up to 5 people. Apartment 2 is decorated with larch and pine, furnished with solid, comfortable pieces of furniture and has splendid views. There is a main living room with kitchen and dining table, three bedrooms and a bathroom with a separate toilet. Two of the bedrooms ( 1 double, 1 twin), have a washbasin. The third bedroom has two single beds. The kitchen is fully equipped, including a fridge/freezer, dishwasher, microwave and oven and a washing machine and dryer. The apartment sleeps up to 8 people.
The Area
There are 150 km of downhill skiing with 78 individual pistes served by 34 ski lifts. Skiing and snowboarding above 2500m throughout the season. The snow is good from the beginning of December until the end of April and there are a variety of runs to suit everyone, ranging from beginners to challenging for both downhill and cross-country skiing. Good ski school and activities for children. Valloire also has an ice rink, bowling, a library, a cinema and a nightclub. A huge snow sculpture event is held at the end of every January. In the summer the valley is very different, changing into an alpine landscape scattered with chapels and tiny hamlets. The climate is warm and the air pure. There are tennis courts and golf courses, riding stables and paragliding and a swimming pool, plus over 130 km of trail for those who like to walk and climb, or cycle, including the Col du Galibier, which is often on the Tour de France route.
