3 double rooms, 2 with private bathrooms

Les Noyers

Les Noyers is a traditional 200 year old farmhouse tucked away in a pretty wooded valley overlooking a lake with beautiful views in all directions – the perfect place for those seeking a peaceful and relaxing hideaway. The bed and breakfast accommodation is part of the main house, which is set in of 50 acres of mixed woodland, meadows and pasture, and designated a "Refuge LPO" (Ligue pour la Protection des Oiseaux).
We are keen on wildlife and nature and in spring particularly, have a wonderful display of orchids (at least 6 different species) together with many birds (including nightingales, hoopoes, nightjars and golden orioles), and deer, wild boar, hares.

We are situated on the GR652 (route St Jacque de Compostelle) and perfectly placed for wonderful walks and rambles. We also have our collection of pets, which includes dogs, cats and horses (all abandoned or retired).

Our nearest town is Villeneuve-sur-Lot (8 kms), a town with a substantial history. The first activity in this area goes back to the Roman era. At the junction of two major roads, it was a strategic point but it was only in the 13th century that a bastide was built, a fortified town typical of the Aquitaine region. Pujols (6 km) is classified as an 'Historic Monument' and known as 'one of the most beautiful villages in France'. Our favourite restaurant is located here with spectacular views from the terrace over Villeneuve and the surrounding area – quite a stunning sight during dinner on a summer’s evening. Villeneuve has 3 market days every week and Pujols just one on a Sunday.

The house has been carefully restored to retain all the original features including the magnificent oak roof timbers and thick stone walls. The addition of new oak and pine furniture perfectly compliments the beams and presents a warm, comfortable interior.

The three guest bedrooms are all situated on the first floor and furnished in a similar manner with clean, neutral tones and solid wooden floors. There are two double rooms (each with private shower rooms) and one twin bedded room. The family bathroom is on the ground floor. You will also find a comfortable sitting room area on the first floor (games, jigsaws, DVDs and Wi-Fi connection available).

Breakfast can be served in the dining room or on the terrace and typically consists of fruit juice, fresh fruit, yogurt, cereals, bread, toast, croissants, home-made jams and preserves, and tea or coffee.

Outside we have an extensive shady garden and a delightful terrace, a hammock slung under the shade of the acacia trees and several sun loungers for complete relaxation. Covered car parking is available at the front of the barn, essential when the weather is hot. We are keen gardeners and grow our own vegetables - tomatoes, beetroot and butternut squash have been particularly successful this year.

The Area

Les Noyers is in a wonderful position for walkers - the GR 652 which is one of the routes of Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle, literally passes through the our valley. The trails here are truly lovely with wonderful views over delightful countryside; the shady woodland paths making comfortable walking when the weather is hot. A leisurely stroll around the lake takes about 50 minutes. A walk to the Grottes-de-Lastournelle takes about 30 minutes (this is a natural series of seven caves which are 25 million years old, containing a spectacular display of stalagmites and stalactites). For longer walks, we have several planned trails of between five and eleven kilometres.

Cyclists can try the veloroute or bike road, which uses small, charming roads close to the Lot river (almost flat and hardly used by cars). It will take you through many villages on an 80 km circuit and through orchards, vegetable and cereal farms.
If you would like to explore the River Lot, there are boating centres at Villeneuve and Casseneuil - canoes, rowing boats, pedal boats can all be hired.
Riders will find several local riding stables and can enjoy riding by the hour or the day and for those interested in horse breeding, Villeneuve is the home of the famous Haras National, the home of 35 stallions – well worth a visit.
You can experience your first flight in a microlight at St Exupery Base ULM – the biggest microlight centre in Europe, just a 20 minute drive away.

Between them, Villeneuve and Pujols offer markets on 4 days of the week, the Sunday morning Pujols market and the Wednesday morning organic market at Villeneuve are particularly good. Also worth a visit are Penne d'Agenais, Monflanquin and Monpazier, three more impressive bastide towns dating from the 13th century.

As well as our local caves, the Grottes du Lastournelles, there are also the larger Grottes de Fontirou, a fifteen minute drive away. For all the wine buffs, we are close to the wine making regions of Cahors and Bordeaux and visits to the vineyards are always very popular.

Local food delicacies here include duck confit, prunes, walnuts and foie gras - there are many wonderful restaurants in the area and we will be delighted to make some recommendations for you.
