Hameau de Certes
Certes is a group of 16th Century cottages overlooking the charming village of Gaudies, which sits on the River L'Hers. The hamlet is tucked high between a valley of rolling green hills encompassing magnificent views of distant villages and the Pyrenees and is very peaceful, ideal for fishing, swimming and picnics, painting and bird watching. We offer our guests a holiday where you can truly relax and get away from the everyday pressures of life, and enjoy the pleasures of the countryside where traditional ways and values are still to be found.
Come for a family holiday or a week of painting, yoga or walking in this stunning environment, enjoy delicious local cuisine like foie gras and magret de canard, sample the wonderful wines this area has to offer: Minervois, Fonton, Gaillac, Buzet or Madiran. A very warm welcome awaits you at Hameau de Certes. Choose from 3 enchanting gite cottages: Petite Chouette sleeps 2 to 5, Le Crecerelle sleeps 8, La Chouette sleeps up to 11 people. The cottages are all individually screened with shrubs and plants to ensure plenty of privacy for each, or you can take advantage of the immense space and freedom to enjoy a family or a large group gathering in all three cottages. There is a large pool, a tennis court and a golf range. Bikes are available. We also have a large, stunning studio with wall to ceiling picture windows giving spectacular views, perfect for painters, yoga, music and all large group activities. Each cottage has a private patio area well equipped with garden furniture and BBQ's. There are guest laundry facilities on site and plenty of sunloungers and parasols for around the pool and garden. A herb garden is available for your culinary creations and there is ample car parking. We can also provide a cot and highchair and there is Wi-Fi Internet connection.
Hameau de Certes is about 45 minutes from both Toulouse and Carcassonne, 75 minutes from Andorra, 20 minutes from Mirepoix, 25 minutes from Foix and 10 minutes from Pamiers. The small village of Belpech is 2 km from Certes, which has all basic facilities; banks with cash points, supermarkets, a pharmacy, doctors' surgery, restaurant, a newsagent, a bakery and a petrol station. Petite Chouette is a restored 16th Century stone cottage that has 2 bedrooms (1 king size double and a treble), a living room with dining area, a separate, fully-equipped kitchen and a bathroom with a large bath and shower, toilet and hand basin. There is television (Sky), DVD and play station with 2 games available, CD, DVD library and plenty of games, books and local information. Comfortable for 2 to 5 people. Le Crecerelle has 4 bedrooms and is a delightful, spacious, light and airy cottage overlooking the pool and tennis court, featuring a wood burning stove and timber beams. There is an open plan living room with a fully equipped kitchen area, a large dining table seating 8 to 10 people, television, DVDs, CD radio, play station 2, books, games and lots of local information. The first floor has 2 double rooms ( a double and a twin) with wash basins in each room and electric fans for hot summer nights. The bathroom has bath and shower, a vanity unit, toilet and hardryer. There is also another toilet. The second floor has 2 twin rooms with hand basins and a separate shower room with a vanity unit and wc. The cottage is cool in the summer and cosy in the spring and autumn months. The patio runs along the front of the cottage and faces onto views over stunning open country. Sleeps up to 8 people. La Chouette has splendid 4 ensuite bedrooms, (one double, two twin, a single room and a mezzanine bedroom with three single beds), sleeping up to 11 people. A large, blissfully comfortable cottage, privately situated overlooking the pool with open views of the countryside. The kitchen is fully equipped to cater for large groups and includes a double oven with six ring hobs, a fridge, separate large freezer, sharp kitchen knives and everything enthusiastic cooks would need. The living room has large, comfortable sofas, television (Sky), DVD/CD and play station 2, a DVD / play station library and plenty of games, books and local information. The patio is secluded and has outside tables and chairs and a barbecue.
The Area
If you can tear yourself away from all the facilities on offer at Hameau de Certes, the Ariège has lots of energetic activities: Water adventure parks, caves and gorges, white water rafting, canoeing, water skiing, rock climbing, mountain biking, bungee jumping. The Ariège is in the central Pyrénées, next to Andorra, its highest peaks visible from Toulouse. It is one of the most unspoiled regions of France, whose inhabitants have held fast to their traditions. The countryside is wild but easily accessible. Top grade trout streams rush down forested mountainsides into rivers where kayakers paddle. Signed posted walking routes lead to 3000 metre peaks where isards (chamois deer), marmots and even bears roam. Cyclists can take in a stage of the Tour de France, mountain bike down tracks or gently pedal in the valleys visiting ancient bastide towns and villages. - Lake Montbel has a beach and watersports, picnic areas,30 mins away. - The Mediterranean coast, great beaches and waterparks. - This is the Cathar region so take the opportunity to visit the many castles and chateaux including Carcassonne. - There is a choice of 3 golf courses within about 40 minutes. - The nearest ski station is under an hour away. - Ax-Les-Thermes has many shops and restaurants. A box car will take you to the main ski level. - Enjoy the Bassin des Ladres, a natural pool of hot sulphurous water. - Visit Andorra for the duty free shopping. The Midi Pyrenees has a number of rambling routes and trails crossing over to the border into Spain. The Cathar route includes the Chemin des Bonshommes, Chemin de Liberté and the Chemin Des Orris. All these walks deserve time and are an excellent reason for taking a walking holiday in the Ariegé. The medieval bastides of Mirepoix and Mazères and the many Romanesque churches, including those at St Lizier, Saint-Jean-de-Verges and Vals, illustrate the riches of this era. Flora and fauna flourish in this warm, inviting landscape. Impressive citadels like Montségur and Foix dominate the views. Enjoy a day’s walk, rambling amongst vineyards, finishing at the local Domaine de Forêt vineyard for a wine tasting. Travel Information
